For The Doctors News in 2:00, The Doctors shared that the CDC has issued a health advisory that this year’s flu vaccine may not be as effective as they had hoped. Each year, health experts get together to determine which strains of the flu will likely proliferate. From there, a vaccine cocktail is created to target those strains. The vaccine this year does not seem to be very effective at fighting a mutated strain of the H3N2 strain, which has been the most commonly reported strain.
Health experts still recommend vaccination, since it can protect against other strains, including H1N1, and you’re less likely to have severe symptoms even if you do get the flu.
The Drs TV: New System For Medication Risks
Starting in June 2015, drug companies will be required to clearly state the risks of medicines taken during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Medication risk levels are currently denoted by an alphabet system that has been confusing for both doctors and patients. The new system divides risk levels into three categories, pregnancy, lactation and fertility. The FDA will require drug companies to provide a summary of dangers from existing human studies and adverse reactions caused when a drug is taken during pregnancy and lactation.

You can prevent becoming one of those statistics by treating your next hospital visit like ordering takeout, when you ask the person on the phone to repeat your order back to you. Do that when you’re in the hospital, specifically when you have a severe allergy. Ask the medical professional to repeat what’s on your chart, and go through the specifics.
