The Doctors: Social Media For Rich Only
The Doctors talked about the site that is being described as an “elite version of Facebook.” Netropolitan is an online country club for people with a lot of money. The founder of the site is drawing the attention of people wanting to avoid others with less money than them. If you want to become a member of the site, you have to pay $9,000 up front and $3,000 every year after. The founder claims he created a place where people can share their excess on social media without receiving backlash.

The Doctors welcomed the founder of the site via Polycom, James Touchi-Peters. First, Dr. Travis Stork shared how shocked he was at the price to join the site, and Touchi-Peters said the site is must cheaper than most real-world country clubs, which is part of the point. But as Dr. Drew Ordon and Dr. Jim Sears said, there’s no pool, golf course, or even food! Touchi-Peters joked “that’s why the fee is cheaper.”

Dr. Rachael Ross questioned the purpose of the site, and Touchi-Peters said the point is to allow people with similar lifestyle experiences to connect. Dr. Ordon said he understands the possible networking benefit for those wanting to talk to people with more things in common with them. Dr. Ross said maybe it’s about having a place where you can flash all your extravagant things without worrying about someone robbing you. She said it sounds like a closed, elite environment that she just doesn’t understand.
Dr. Travis Stork said he always says “to each their own” and maybe if someone spends that amount of money they will find like-minded people. Touchi-Peters shared that he’s an orchestra conductor by profession, and Dr. Stork used that as an example to say you don’t have to be rich to enjoy the orchestra, so there’s a chance this site just creates a group of people that self-selects. He also said that studies have shown extremely wealthy people tend to be less grateful and if you put a group of them together, it supports narcissism and entitlement.
The Doctors: Social Media Site For Wealthy People
Dr. Sears joked that if he saves up $9,000, within a year he could have a friend with a jet, a friend with a yacht, and a friend with a Lamborghini. Touchi-Peters admitted, without directly saying, that the site was created as a way to make himself some money. The Doctors wished him the best of luck and Dr. Sears asked for $9,000 so he could join the site, only to have Dr. Stork say he would be out of place!
Would you pay $9,000 just to associate with people that have similar bank accounts to you?
