The hosts of The Chew got together to prepare a recipe anyone can make and enjoy, all within minutes! These fun Crispy Ham and Cheddar Rolls are perfect for all ages and a great way to use up leftover ham. Plus, the red pepper jelly Carla Hall added, gives just the right amount of sweetness to round out the flavor in each bite. They compared these rolls to egg rolls, except with much different fillings! Even if you’re quite the amateur in the kitchen, this is one recipe even you can pull off!

The Chew: Crispy Ham & Cheddar Roll Recipe

The hosts of ‘The Chew’ prepared fun and tasty Crispy Ham and Cheddar Rolls as an easy and crowd-pleasing treat. (austinevan / Flickr)

  • 1 jar red pepper jelly – 1/2 C saved for serving
  • 2 C Borden Cheese Mild Cheddar Shreds – divided
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 C all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 C canola oil
  • 1 package sliced soft white bread
  • 1/2 lb thinly sliced ham
  • 1 C panko bread crumbs
  • 1 tbsp milk
  • 1/4 C unsalted butter
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper

The Chew: Crispy Ham & Cheddar Roll Recipe Directions

  1. Roll out each slice of white bread until 1/4-inch thick
  2. Spread about 2 tsp jam over the bread
  3. Lay a slice of ham on top of the jam then add one tbsp Borden Cheese Mild Cheddar Shreds
  4. Tightly roll the bread away from you, like a cigar
  5. Put on a baking sheet seam-side-down
  6. Repeat until all the bread is used
  7. Prepare a dredging station by adding the flour to the first dish, whisked eggs and milk in the second dish, and 1 C Cheddar Shreds with bread crumbs, ground in a food processor, to the third dish
  8. Dredge each roll in the flour, then the egg, and then finally the bread crumb mixture
  9. Heat a large non-stick saute pan over medium heat with 2 tbsp butter and 2 tbsp oil
  10. Once melted, add the cheddar roll and brown on all sides
  11. Remove to a paper-towel-lined plate and season with salt and pepper
  12. Add the rest of the butter and oil, if necessary, and repeat with the rest of the ingredients
  13. Serve warm with the saved red pepper jelly
