Cold butter helps to make for a flaky crust, and it won’t stick to the blade of your food processor. If you don’t want to make your own crust, you can buy one that is pre-made.

A pinch of salt helps to balance the sweetness, which is just the way Carla Hall likes her desserts. Blueberries mix well with Lemon, but they also work with Orange, as seen in this recipe.

If you’re feeling like starting the day off with a sweet treat, you could enjoy this dessert as breakfast.
- 1 Carla’s Perfect Pie Crust Recipe
- 1/4 cup Brown Sugar
- 1/4 tsp Salt
- 2 tbsp Cornstarch
- 1 whisked Egg
- 1 1/2 lb fresh Blueberries
- 1/4 cup Sugar
- 1 tsp Vanilla
- Zest & Juice of 1 Orange
- Water

- Powdered Sugar
- Turbinado Sugar
Carla Hall: The Chew Rustic Blueberry Tart Recipe Directions
- Preheat oven at 400 F.
- Let dough come to room temperature as you work on the filling mixture.
- Mix blueberries, salt, cornstarch, sugars, vanilla, orange juice and zest in a bowl.
- Roll dough to 1/4” thick.
- Line a baking sheet with parchment and place the dough on top.
- Leaving about two inches around the border, pour blueberry mixture onto the dough.
- Roughly pleat and form the dough around the edges, about every two to three inches, to create a rough wall form to hold in the filling.
- Whisk an egg with a splash of water and brush it over the exposed dough edges.
- Sprinkle turbinado sugar over the dough.
- Bake about 40 minutes, to a bubbly golden brown.
- Let cool for 10 minutes and garnish with powdered sugar.
- Serve warm if you like, or let it come to room temperature on the windowsill first.
