The Chew: May 27 2013
On The Chew May 27 2013, they will be re-airing their Ultimate Barbecue Cookout countdown. They will be travelling across America to count down the best barbecues and cookouts in San Diego, Connecticut Clambake, Talladega, Abilene, and Memphis BBQ.
The Chew: San Diego Cookout with Veterans
I’ve never really thought of San Diego as a place known for barbecues. I mean, are there even any all that many backyards around there to host some type of cooking event in? Either way, I don’t really see San Diego taking home the prize on this one. It’s San Diego.
I can’t discount them entirely, though. My grandpa was a veteran of Pearl Harbour, and he could make a mean steak, so maybe if they can come correct with something like that, they will emerge victorious. Otherwise, I just don’t see urban dwellers taking home the prize on this one.
The Chew: Talladega Tailgate
Now here is a potential winner if I ever saw one. Tailgating is pretty much the essence of barbecues distilled. You’re crowded around a grill outside imbibing in alcoholic beverages, waiting on some sort of sporting event to happen, and hanging out with friends. It just screams cookout.
I understand that essence won’t necessarily win this for them – they have to back it all up with some mean cooking skills. However, I think that they have a lot going for them. We all know how home games tend to play out a little better for sports teams than away games, and, as someone who knows absolutely nothing about cookout culture, I have to say that tailgates are the equivalent of a home game for a barbecue.
