The Iron Grandmas have made their stuffing, the judges have tried the stuffing and it is time for the critiques of the stuffing to see who is heading home with the Golden Wishbone trophy.
The Chew: Antoinette’s Italian Sausage Stuffing Review
Sam Champion said he loved the stuffing. He said it was warm and really delicious. Geoffrey Zakaris said you immediately think of Thanksgiving when you try the stuffing. Sam Sifton said by cooking each part of the stuffing separately, Antoinette was able to give each part of the stuffing a distinct flavor.
The Chew: Daisy’s Southern Cornbread Stuffing Review
Zakarian said the stuffing was not like anything he has ever had but it was really good. Sifton said the stuffing was more of a pudding but he said it was great. Champion said it was everything he grew up with. He said the turkey parts really kept the stuffing moist and it made him feel at home.
The Chew: Mama T’s Pancetta and Fennel Stuffing Review
Sifton loved the fennel and said he could tell this was a stuffing made right from a homemade recipe. He said it was risky using the fennel because many people do not like fennel, but he thought it was excellent. Zakarian said the pancetta was great and you could taste it right away. Champion said dipping the stuffing in the cranberry sauce right after tasted excellent.
The Chew: Winner of the Golden Wishbone Trophy
After some deliberation, the judges declared Antoinette the winner of the Golden Wishbone.
The Chew: Dressing or Stuffing?
Zakarian said this was the kind of stuffing you get a full plate of and you eat it alone. Sifton said it was key cooking everything separately, but also commented that none of the stuffings were actually stuffings. He said they were dressings because they were cooked outside the bird.
Anyways, Champion said the stuffing could be a meal by itself. Sifton even said he was going to use the recipe in place of his mashed potatoes.
Everyone seemed to agree that stuffing is the central dish, besides the turkey, at Thanksgiving. And Mario Batali asked how many times a year can you have a cold stuffing sandwich?
