Brown’s a watermelon fanatic, so this worked out perfectly for him. He said that most people who eat watermelon like it when it’s really cold because it’s 92% water, so it’s really refreshing. Brown likes to cook it though, and he cooks it a lot. He likes to grill it. He said you grill steaks and take them off the grill, but there’s still a lot of heat there. Rather than just watching it, he grills watermelon.
He made a grilled watermelon salad. Kelly & Michael asked how to get the watermelon so dry because most people don’t know to get rid of the excess moisture. Brown also talked about how great watermelon gets along with salt and herbs. Instead of putting on salt, they put salty ingredients on it and built a salad. Onions also go very well with watermelon.
Kelly & Michael: Watermelon Sorbet + Pickled Rind
Brown kept telling them to use their hands while they were cooking. Kelly also talked about how she has incredible knife skills and how bossy Brown was. He talked about how he likes to squeeze things in a Panini press to see what happens. Kelly talked about how he’s like a chemist. The whole dish took them two minutes.
They tried the dish. Brown also made a Watermelon Campari Sorbet. Campari is a bitter liquor. He also made a spicy Pickled Watermelon Rind with bacon. It was all very good. I’ve never actually had grilled watermelon before, but everyone says it’s great, so I think I’ll try this one. Don’t forget to take the food selfie because he really wants to win. Food Network Star season 10 airs on Sundays on the Food Network.
