Michael Strahan: Bulgogi Beef Recipe
Michael Strahan has co-hosted with Kelly Ripa many times. Today, they looked back at some of the fun times they have had, including learning his mother’s Korean Bulgogi Beef Barbeque recipe, checking out new cars during Auto Show Week, and babysitting Kelly Ripa’s kids with Regis Philbin.
Kelly Ripa: Bulgogi Beef Recipe
Michael Strahan’s mother visited Korea and came back with a recipe for bulgogi beef. First, you take two pounds of beef, which you will cut into 1” thick slices.

Then combine 1/3 cup of soy sauce, 1/4 cup of sesame seed oil, one clove of garlic and sugar to taste in a mixing bowl. Once the sugar dissolves, add the beef and let it marinate. You can even let it marinate overnight in the refrigerator.
After marinating, you will also need a clove of garlic and one chopped bunch of scallions. Also, chop one regular onion and two green peppers. Heat a saucepan and add a little olive oil.
Then add the beef, onion, and scallions, letting the mixture cook, covered, stirring occasionally. When it’s nearly done, add the green pepper. Serve the finished product over rice.
Kelly Ripa: New York Auto Show
Alan Taylor from Motor Trend magazine joined Michael Strahan and Kelly Ripa to talk about hot cars coming on the market. The first car he unveiled was the new version of the Volkswagen Microbus, an electric concept car that is targeted for 2014.
2014 Volkswagen Microbus
This Volkswagen Microbus prototype, pegged at approximately $25,000, even has an iPad built into the dashboard and a panoramic sunroof. Michael Strahan said he has to test vehicles by checking the legroom in the back seat, and this Microbus passed his inspection.
2012 Range Rover Evoke
Next on the list was the new Range Rover Evoke, which Alan Taylor said gets almost 30 miles per gallon, offering fuel economy along with elegance and style. It has a 4-cylinder engine and a crossover SUV design.
Kelly Ripa said that ladies wouldn’t have to worry about accidentally exposing what’s under their skirts because of the seat height. The car also boasted a back seat entertainment system, and is priced around $45,000.
2012 Nissan Quest
The new Nissan Quest is a fully-loaded van, selling around $27,000. Alan Taylor called it a luxury cruiser, getting 24 miles per gallon on the highway and around 19 miles per gallon in town. It has a V6 engine and sheds the stigma of the old minivan.
2012 Toyota Prius V
Toyota is also introducing the Prius V, a new, bigger Prius. There is more legroom and 60% more storage space in the cargo area. Fuel economy is still the focus of the hybrid Prius, averaging 42 miles per gallon in the city, and 38 miles per gallon on the highway. Kelly Ripa was taken with the new color scheme.
Regis Philbin: Babysat Kelly Ripa’s Kids
Kelly Ripa and guest co-host Michael Strahan recalled a football bet Kelly won, forcing Michael Strahan and Regis Philbin to babysit the Consuelos kids. Regis told Michael not to be intimidated, and they divided up responsibility for the kids before arriving at Kelly Ripa’s apartment.
She left the babysitters with instructions and expressed concern over Regis’s babysitting mishap the last time he watched her children. Her instructions included no sweets and roughhousing. Michael Strahan told Kelly not to worry because “I’m a gentle giant.”
The first thing Regis Philbin and Michael Strahan did was to give the kids sweets and let them play football in the house. After some arm wrestling, Regis tried to help the kids with their homework. When he didn’t understand an arithmetic question, he called Donald Trump for advice.
Later, Lola Consuelos had a tea party, dressing Regis Philbin and Michael Strahan in tiaras, boas, and lipstick. When Kelly Ripa called to check in, the kids were eating ice cream and whipped topping straight from the can.
Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos came home early to find the gang in the process of enjoying their messy desserts in progress. Mark invited the babysitters to play Wii games while Kelly Ripa cleaned up the dishes.
Kelly, have you or your producers heard of the American Made movement? Every single automobile you mentioned was from a foreign owned company…not one of the Big 3 that are really American made. Guess what? Chrysler invented the mini-van and still makes the best looking, best performing mini-van on the market. Even though some of the vehicles are assembled in America, they are assembled in union free states, in areas with the lowest minimum wage and little or no insurance offered to workers. Workers have to sign a contract that states they will not join a union, and if they do they are fired. Shame on you!! Get with the times. Did those companies pay you for having their vehicles on your show? What good advertising for them…you sure helped their advertising budget. Shame on you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
