Kelly & Michael Holiday Hits Week: Colbie Caillat

All week long, Kelly & Michael have welcomed fun and festive performances from some of music’s biggest stars in their Holiday Hits Week. First, Richard Marx performed a Christmas song with his three sons. Then, both Lifehouse and Ashanti covered great holiday classics. Next up was Grammy winner Colbie Caillat, a best-selling singer-songwriter from Malibu, California.

Colbie Caillat: “Christmas in the Sand” Album & Performance

Colbie’s latest release is the festive holiday album Christmas in the Sand. The album features covers of well-known Christmas classics as well as original songs written by Colbie.

Colbie performed the album’s title track, “Christmas in the Sand,” for the audience. She wrote the holiday-themed tune especially for her Christmas album. The song is very catchy, and also has a fun retro feel. It’s also very original – where else can you hear a song about Santa catching a wave in his bathing suit?

It’s not often that singers put their own truly unique spin on Christmas songs, but Colbie managed to accomplish that feat by adding a dose of her signature Southern California charm. Kelly called Colbie’s performance “a lot of fun.”

Colbie Caillat: “Christmas in the Sand” Produced by Ken Caillat

Colbie told Kelly & Michael that Christmas in the Sand features four original duets that were co-written with Brad Paisley, Gavin DeGraw, Justin Young and Jason Reeves. The album was also produced by her father, Ken Caillat, who also produced Fleetwood Mac’s landmark album Rumours. 

Colbie and her dad produced the album at home in Southern California. Working with her dad was “a blast” because he adds “beautiful color” to every song. Colbie said that her dad is a very talented producer.

As the band played them out, Kelly revealed that she wanted to be one of Colbie’s back-up dancers. Maybe they can find a spot for her!
