Kelly & Michael: Michael Douglas Cancer Update
Two-time Academy Award winner Michael Douglas stars in the brand new comedy Last Vegas. He appears alongside Robert DeNiro, Kevin Kline, Morgan Freeman, and Mary Steenburgen (all Oscar winners themselves). Michael was the latest of this esteemed cast to drop by Live! With Kelly & Michael for a chat with the hosts.
Michael was clearly in a great mood as he danced onto the set. “I feel great,” he told Kelly & Michael. He’s been clean for three years and currently stands at 95% odds at beating his cancer, which is fantastic news.

Michael isn’t the only Douglas man doing so well. His father, Kirk Douglas, is 96 years old. He just completed his 10th novel, which is called I Am Spartacus. Michael said that the resemblance between his father and himself is pretty uncanny, especially as he gets older. So much so, in fact, that his father confused Michael with himself while watching a movie on TV.

Michael spent his Halloween trick-or-treating in Westchester County, New York. His son, Dylan, was a hobbit, daughter Carys was a flapper, and wife Catherine (Zeta-Jones) was Snow White.
Michael picked up a “Michael Myers” mask, thinking it was Mike Myers the actor, not the fictional serial killer.
Kelly and Michael: Michael Douglas Behind The Candelabra
Michael recently won his first Emmy Award for his incredible portrayal of Liberace in the HBO film Behind the Candelabra. Michael had been nominated five times before, but never won. Like everyone else, Kelly and Michael were both astonished by how believable Michael was as the famous entertainer. Michael explained that he was given plenty of time to do research and really nail the role.

Kelly and Michael also shared an early picture of Michael during his time on a series called CBS Playhouse. He explained that afterwards, he entered a contract with CBS films, which is now the company that produced Last Vegas. Things really do come full circle!

Michael enjoyed working with the cast of Last Vegas immensely. The plot follows four old friends as the reunite for Michael’s character’s bachelor party in Las Vegas. None of the actors had ever worked together before, but by the end of shooting, it was like a “love fest.” Michael also clued everyone in on the fact that Mary Steenburgen is a great singer—who knew?
