Reese Witherspoon: Smores at 2nd Wedding

Actress Reese Witherspoon was today’s first guest, in an encore segment. Kelly Ripa congratulated her on her recent marriage to talent agent Jim Toth.

“As my girlfriend says, you’ve got to be excited because you only get married for the second time once,” Reese Witherspoon said. She was previously married to actor Ryan Phillippe.

Michael Strahan said he heard a rumor that the recent wedding menu included smores. Reese Witherspoon said that it made the event fun for her two children, and when kids are having fun at a wedding, adults will loosen up as well.

Reese Witherspoon’s Daughter: Maid Of Honor

Kelly Ripa asked if the kids were involved in planning the wedding. Reese Witherspoon said her daughter helped her pick out her dress and served as her maid of honor. Michael Strahan said weddings are much easier on the groom than the bride.

Kelly Ripa suggested that Reese Witherspoon’s experience as a movie producer might help her when it comes to planning a wedding, but Reese disagreed.

In case you had any doubt that this was a repeat interview, the conversation turned to the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton. Kelly Ripa and Reese Witherspoon talked about the fascination with the spectacle and all the memorabilia being sold, like commemorative plates.

Kelly Ripa said Reese Witherspoon’s look in Water For Elephants inspired her spring and summer styles. Reese said the hair and wardrobe was beautiful, but time intensive. She was not allowed to keep her outfits from the movie.

Reese Witherspoon: Working With Animals

Kelly Ripa said her interaction with an elephant in this film was not Reese Witherspoon’s first role opposite an animal. There was her canine co-star Bruiser in Legally Blonde, for example.

Reese Witherspoon said that she trained for two months to learn how to work with the elephant. She said she was terrified at first when working around the elephant, but they developed a great relationship.

Reese Witherspoon said she did all her own stunts with the elephant, but she did not do the stunts with horses, because they scared her more.

Michael Strahan said he’d be more afraid of an elephant than a horse, but Kelly Ripa pointed out that elephants move slower!

Kelly Ripa brought up Reese Witherspoon’s chemistry with her Water For Elephants co-star Robert Pattinson. She called him “sweet” and “a nice guy,” with whom she has a good relationship.

Michael Strahan brought up the range of emotions the movie evokes in audiences. They talked about Christoph Waltz’s performance as Reese’s character’s scary husband.

But she said Christoph Waltz is sweet in real life, and brought his young daughter to the set. The trio watched a clip from Water For Elephants.
