Kelly & Michael: Alex Patterson Tough Mudder
Kelly & Michael had been talking about the Tough Mudder Competition for days, and they finally did it on September 5 2014. It looked intense and like a lot of fun. Tough Mudder events have attracted over 1.5 million participants from around the world, which is crazy. Strength, stamina, and mental grit, and teamwork are all put to test. Kelly & Michael first said hi to Tough Mudder’s Alex Patterson, who would be competing with Nick Carter and Jordan Knight. He asked Kelly & Michael if they were ready for this and Kelly said no.

Michael asked what the appeal of Tough Mudder is and he said it was twofold. People are looking for a challenge and a reason to get off the couch, get fit, and have a sense of accomplishment. It’s also a lot of fun. There are a lot of obstacles that require teamwork and can’t be done alone.
95% of participants do this as a part of a team. At the end you get a beer. Kelly & Michael then introduced the teams. They brought Gelman out to finish off their team, then they brought Nick & Knight to finish off Alex’s team. Nick & Knight were decked out in black with the lines on their faces.

Alex had to explain what the course was like first because Kelly & Michael were a little nervous. They’re both physical and mental tests. The first is balls to the wall, which is a ten foot obstacle you have to climb. Kelly has a fear of heights, and he used that against her. Then you go through boa constrictor, which is a 15 to 20 foot tight tunnel. Then you go through mud under barbed wire. Then there are monkey bars, then the best teamwork obstacle called pyramid scheme, followed by arctic enema, which is a dumpster full of 10,000 pounds of ice.
Finally they got in place to take Tough Mudder on. They all had war paint on and they were getting pumped up. Because it’s about teamwork, they all counted down together. Then they raced to get started with Michael in the lead. Nick caught up past Kelly though, but Gelman and Alex evened it out. Michael kept helping Kelly when he was done with his obstacles. Michael basically held Kelly during the monkey bars. Nick fell during the monkey bars and needed a towel. Kelly, Michael and Gelman were doing much better. Michael basically jumped to the top of the pyramid. They clearly had a strategy in place.
In the end Kelly, Michael, and Gelman won and got back to confetti in the studio. Kelly said that she speaks for everyone when she says that they don’t have to worry about having Nick Carter and Jordan Knight on their show anymore. Kelly said it was a lot of fun and great teamwork. She said she would do it again in a heartbeat, and Michael agreed. Then everyone got a headband that you put on somebody else and they all got a beer.
