Kelly & Michael: Toni Collette Iconic Movies
Toni Collette came by to talk to Kelly & Michael. She’s known for her roles in Muriel’s Wedding, The Sixth Sense, and About a Boy. They showed pictures from the movies. Kelly said she looked like a model.
It’s been 20 years since Muriel’s Wedding. They couldn’t believe it. It’s also been 15 years since The Sixth Sense. Michael asked what people come up to her about more. She gets some people saying, “I see dead people,” but she gets more people saying, “You’re terrible, Muriel.” She said it drove her nuts for a while, but she likes that people are still affected by that movie. Kelly said it’s awesome that she’s been a part of such iconic movies.
Kelly & Michael: Toni Collette Working With Crush Ralph Macchio
Collette got embarrassed when Michael said there was one film that had quite an impact on her. They were talking about The Karate Kid. They quoted, “Sweep the leg, Johnny, sweep the leg.” She had a crush on Ralph Macchio and they even worked together a few years ago. He looks exactly the same. She didn’t tell him she had a crush on him though. Her entire wall was covered in posters of him.

Toni Collette stopped by to talk to Kelly & Michael about her new movie ‘A Long Way Down’ and what it was like to work with her crush Ralph Macchio. (Rene Teichmann / Shutterstock.com)
Collette recently made a movie with Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward. It’s called Lucky Them. They shot it in Seattle and it’s about a rock journalist who was sent on a story to look for her long lost love that disappeared ten years earlier. It’s been out for a couple of weeks and is doing really well. It’s really funny.
It was number three on iTunes. Kelly likes that new format. Collette said that people watch movies “on their bloody phones” and they weren’t sure if she could actually say “bloody,” but she did. The writer was friends with Claire Newman. Joanne Woodward took charge when Paul Newman died.
Kelly & Michael: A Long Way Down Premise
They talked about Collette’s new movie A Long Way Down. It’s about four strangers who meet on a London rooftop because they all intend to commit suicide. Collette said it’s a comedy. It’s based on a Nick Hornby novel. He’s a beautiful writer that just gets people and life. It’s about four people who are at their most desperate and end up saving each other. It’s not about suicide. It’s about friendship.
Kelly & Michael: Toni Collette Working With Pierce Brosnan
Pierce Brosnan is also in the movie. He’s very charming and charismatic, but Collette said he’s a “naughty Irish lad.” Kelly said he looks like he would smell good. Collette said he looks expensive. He’s “garage kept.”
Kelly & Michael: A Long Way Down Review
They played a clip of A Long Way Down. They went to the beach in the clip. Collette said this was the best scene to shoot because they shot mostly in London, but they got to go on a holiday for this shoot. She said they all loved each other so much and were just having fun, so they put it in the movie. In the clip they weren’t going to go in the water and Collete’s character didn’t want to, but they dragged her in and just had fun. A Long Way Down will be in theaters on July 11 2014 and is available on iTunes and on demand now.
