Meryl Streep came by to talk to Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan about her new movie adaptation of the musical Into The Woods, which I am so excited for. I also love Streep, so I was really excited for this interview. She’s a three time Oscar winner and a recent recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom. She had a great entrance and, of course, a great reception. Kelly said she always sees her at black tie events and forgets about her killer body.

Streep just received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in November 2014. It’s the highest civilian award in the US. She didn’t realize he’d put it on her and she shouldn’t have worn a ponytail. She said “Thank you” to the president. Sometimes she thinks these things are happening to someone else. Where do you wear that? Thanksgiving dinner? She should have. “They still wouldn’t respect me,” she laughed. She still had to cook and clean after that.

She hates her oven and had a Thanksgiving disaster. Her oven wouldn’t work. They cooked the turkey for 11 hours and the white meat was done, but they threw out the rest. Her brother was in charge of cooking. They also knocked on her neighbor’s door. She happens to be Gwyneth Paltrow. They weren’t home, but she went over and did the sides in her oven. She didn’t walk through her house though. She brought one of her daughters who was dying to go through it, but they didn’t. It’s a beautiful place. Her doorman let her in.

Kelly & Michael: Into the Woods Review

In the clip of Into the Woods, Streep was singing as the witch. She’s amazing. Enough said. Kelly said she always forgets she has such an amazing voice until she uses it. They should have built up to that clip though.

Streep’s worked with a bunch of these people before. But did she know they could all sing so well? Streep said it’s unusual if an actor can’t sing because it’s such a direct link to your emotions and is such a great form of expression. Music is an amazing art form and she was so glad they were making more musicals.

The hair and makeup was also amazing. She’s been working with the same person for years. Her character gets to transform too because she has a magic potion where she gets to be whoever she wants, but that was actually more work.

She doesn’t have a favorite film that’s she’s been in. It’s like home movies to her if she finds her work on TV. They all bring back Christmas past. Into The Woods will be in theaters on Christmas Day 2014.
