Laurence Fisburne: One Life To Live and Apocalypse Now

Laurence Fishburne was fresh off a brisk walk in New York City on Live! with Kelly & Michael. Before he discussed his thrilling new series on NBC, Hannibal, Laurence shared some highlights from his long career as a professional actor. Laurence began acting at the age of 10, and one of his very first acting jobs was One Life To Live. Michael and guest co-host Robin Roberts even had a photo to share of a very young Laurence shooting a scene.

One of Laurence’s first big film roles was the Francis Ford Coppola classic Apocalypse Now. He referred to the two years he spent shooting the film in the Philippines  as “the formative experience of my professional career.” Robin is also a big fan of the HBO film Tuskegee Airmen from 1995.

Laurence Fishburne: Wife Gina Torres

Laurence’s wife is actress Gina Torres, who stars in the USA series SuitsGina films the show in Canada where Hannibal is also filmed. Now that they’re working in the same city, Laurence is glad that the couple gets to spend a lot more time together.

Laurence Fishburne: 2008 Super Bowl

Laurence is not a big sports fan, but he did reveal a pretty cool sports story. His first football game ever was the 2008 Super Bowl because he happened to have free tickets. He got to witness Michael’s big Super Bowl win with the New York Giants.


Laurence Fishburne: Guess the Gap

Because Michael and Laurence both share similar smiles, they decided to play a game of “Guess the Gap.” They identified famous gap-toothed smiles from Anna Paquin, Seal, Madonna, Esther Rolle, Woody Harrelson, Lauren Hutton, Anthony Andreson and Michael and Laurence themselves. In the end, Laurence identified the most smiles and won the coveted Live! golden mug.

Laurence Fishburne: NBC Series Hannibal

In the new NBC series Hannibal, Laurence plays the head of the FBI Behavioral Science Unit, a team set on taking down serial killers. He was attracted to the role because of the excellent writing by series creator Bryan Fuller and the fresh, creative concept of the show.

The series also stars Hugh Dancy as Will Graham and Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen as Dr. Hannibal Lecter. Laurence described the show as “a game of cat-and-mouse” between the three main characters who are always trying to outdo each other. Hannibal is funny, but it’s also very scary!

Robin and Michael had the chance to check out an exclusive clip from the show featuring Laurence Fishburne. Hannibal premieres Thursday April 4 2013 at 10 p.m. on NBC.
