Kerry Washington: Bronx, New York Native

You wouldn’t know but by her accent (or lack-thereof), but Kerry Washington is actually from the Bronx! Kerry discussed returning home to New York when she sat down for an interview with Kelly & Michael. Kerry is in town promoting her new film Django Unchained, but she actually spends most of her time shooting the series Scandal in Los Angeles. That’s why Kerry loves any opportunity to come home, spend time with her parents and enjoy the city.

“I love being from New York,” Washington said. Kerry’s parents – who were both in the audience – still live in the Bronx.

Kerry Washington: Scandal Season Two

Kerry’s show Scandal is currently in its second season on ABC, and Kelly pointed out that the show gets more and more popular over time. Kerry said she’s thankful for the show’s fans, who call themselves “gladiators,” and also for the great writers who keep the actors on their toes.

Kerry’s co-star, Tony Goldwyn, was recently on Live! and told Kelly & Michael how much he loves working with Kerry. Kerry loves Tony, too, but she said that he’s been making her look bad. Whenever people ask about shooting love scenes for the show, Kerry says how awkward it is. Meanwhile, Tony says that he loves it! (He told Kelly & Michael that love scenes with Kerry are “awesome.”)

Kerry Washington: Broomhilda in Django Unchained

Kerry loved working with “visionary” director Quentin Tarantino in the new film Django Unchained. Kerry stars in the film alongside Jamie Foxx, Leonardo DiCaprio, Christoph Waltz, Samuel L. Jackson and Don Johnson, among others. She said that Quentin challenged every actor on the film, and each of them was doing “really profound” work.

Kerry’s character is a slave named Broomhilda. She explained that the film is an unexpected love story because it’s set against the backdrop of the Civil War Era South. She called the very emotional role “the hardest I’ve ever had to do.”

Kelly and Michael got to see a sneak preview of the film, which was a clip of a scene between Kerry and Samuel L. Jackson. The scene gave Kelly goosebumps! You can see Kerry Washington in Django Unchained on December 25 2012.
