Kelly & Michael: Idina Menzel and Michael Duet
Idina Menzel came by. Kelly & Michael congratulated her for her Tony nomination. Kelly & Michael remembered that they saw her at the Academy Awards. She said that she’s doing a show soon and asked Michael if he wants to come on stage and do a duet. He wasn’t ready for that. They did have a clip of them performing before though. Michael sang “Let it Go” on the red carpet and Menzel said to get him off the mike.

Idina Menzel revealed that she warms up wherever the best acoustics are. There’s a picture of her warming up in the bathroom at the Oscars because they had good acoustics. She tries not to be annoying and loud about it though.
Kelly & Michael: Idina Menzel’s Oscars Jewelry

Idina Menzel talked about her new show ‘If/Then’ with Kelly & Michael. She also revealed that her sister slept in all of their Oscars jewelry. (DFree / Shutterstock.com)
Kelly saw Menzel and her sister at the Oscars on the elevator. They looked amazing and had great jewelry. Menzel brought her because she’s calming, but she also realized that it was good to bring her because Frozen’s about sisters. She’s a second grade teacher in Boulder, Colorado.
They borrowed jewelry worth $1.5 million. There was a guard because the jewelry was worth so much. She had to leave the jewelry with her sister to return the next day. Her sister got so nervous that she didn’t take any of hers on and put Menzel’s on too ad slept in all of it. It was the best night’s sleep ever.
Kelly & Michael: Idina Menzel’s Nerves
She sang for a lot of people such as the President and Barbara Streisand. Barbara Streisand was the most stressful for her. She sang “Don’t Rain on my Parade” in her honor. She always tries to keep it real when she sings. At the Oscars she thought she would sing for her son and forget everyone else. But she was a mess when she was signing because Travolta said her name wrong.
People think she didn’t hear, but she did. Kelly & Michael couldn’t hear backstage. You can read the teleprompter, but you can’t hear anything backstage. That’s why they didn’t ask her about it. They didn’t know what people where talking about.
Kelly & Michael: If/Then Review
They played a clip of Idina Menzel in If/Then. There’s a montage with her singing in the background. She’s so talented. Kelly said you have to see her on Broadway to see how great she is. She said she’s been working with great people on a great show. She likes working on original musicals and supporting new stuff. She’s been a part of If/Then since it started three years ago.
Kelly thinks that the new young people hearing that their working with Idina Menzel must feel like that means they have a real shot. Menzel was flattered. But she’s also working with some old friends. Menzel said that now that she’s past 40 she wants to work with people that she loves. She’s working with people she worked with before and who she feels comfortable with.
Menzel plays a woman named Elizabeth. Elizabeth is a woman her age who moves back to New York. She makes a decision about picking up the phone. The show’s about the choices you make and how that affects her life. Menzel likes that everyone can relate. When the men come, they’re a mess too. If/Then is playing at the Richard Rodgers Theater.

Kelly & Michael: Frozen Success
They also talked about Frozen. Her four-year-old son doesn’t care that she’s in Frozen. He was at a Valentine’s Day party. He was one of the only boys, and they said he’s going to be a lady killer. He said, “My mommy sings that song” when it came on and they all said, “So do our mommies.” Kelly said that it’s the new version of “My dad can beat up your dad.”
