Emma Thompson: ‘Love Actually’ 10th Anniversary
Kelly and Michael spoke with Oscar winner Emma Thompson, star of Saving Mr. Banks. However, since it’s the holidays, they just had to bring up Emma’s beloved Christmas classic Love Actually. Can you believe the film was released ten years ago?
Emma said that she and the cast members bump into each other all the time and marvel at how old they’ve gotten! Michael spilled the secret that even tough football players love the movie. But as Emma said, “even football players get their hearts broken.”
Kelly and Michael: Emma Thompson in ‘Sweeney Todd’
Emma will soon make her New York stage debut in the musical Sweeney Todd. She’s currently working on her singing voice, and even gave the audience an amazing sneak peek. Emma acted out her opening scene, demonstrating just what a “mad woman” her character is. Kelly and Michael can’t wait to go on opening night!
Emma Thompson as P.L. Travers in ‘Saving Mr. Banks’
Emma was just nominated for a SAG Award for her performance as P.L. Travers in Saving Mr. Banks. P.L. Travers, the author of Mary Poppins, was “vile to everyone,” including Walt Disney. “She came to Los Angeles determined to hate everyone, and she succeeded!” Emma said.
Emma complained that she permed her hair for the role, which doesn’t quite fit her style. She had a perm in the ’70s as a teenager, and was not happy about re-visiting the look.
Kelly and Michael watched a scene in which P.L. Travers first arrives at Walt Disney Studios. Since she doesn’t want Disney to turn Mary Poppins into a musical, she’s rude to everyone she meets. However, we all know how that turned out!
Saving Mr. Banks opens in theaters December 20 2013.
Kelly and Michael: Emma Thompson Son & Daughter
After the clip, Kelly wanted to know how Emma’s children are doing. Her daughter, Gaia, is 14, and her son, Tindy, is almost 27 and working as a human rights lawyer. They’re both doing great!
