Carley Roney: Organization Tips For the New Year
Kick Start the New Year Week has reached its dramatic conclusion! Kelly & Michael have previously learned tips for restful sleep from Kristen K. Brown, met with Dr. Tasneem Bhatia regarding health tips, Farnoosh Torabi on finance tips and Dr. Melina Jampolis on diet and nutrition tips. To close out the week, editor-in-chief of The Nest, Carley Roney, discussed helpful tips for organizing and de-cluttering in the new year. Check out all of her organization tips below.
Closet/Bedroom Organization Tips:

De-clutter your bedroom, closet, kitchen and more with Carley Roney’s organization tips for the new year.
- Store old boots with rolled up magazines hidden inside. This way they can stand up and be organized neatly. Kelly thought this idea was brilliant. “Why didn’t I think of that?” she said.
- Keep piles of sweaters neat by storing in an open cardboard box.
- Organize shoes in the boxes, but paste a polaroid picture on the box so that you know which is which.
- String your necklaces through a straw so that they don’t get tangled. Also store earrings inside of an ice cube tray.
Linen Closet Organization Tips:
- Take leftover holiday ribbon and tie your sheet sets together.
- Keep extra buttons and threads on a corkboard for easy access.
Kitchen Organization Tips:
- Store condiments such as mustard and ketchup inside of six-pack carton. When it’s barbecue day, you can just grab it and bring it to the table.
- Use empty votive candle holders to store small odds and ends such as rubber bands and clips.
- Can’t remember which key is which? Solve that problem with nail polish. Paint the keys to color code them.
Utility Closet Organization Tips:
- Keep extension cords untangled with a toilet paper tube.
- Stuff leftover grocery bags into an empty tissue box.
- Keep leftover ribbons neat by stacking them onto a paper towel holder. Also keep extra gift bags on a hanger in the closet. Genius!
