Kelly & Michael: Bow Wow Week
During Kelly & Michael’s Bow Wow Week, we’ve learned the importance of adopting from shelters, and knowing which dog breed is right for you. But once you’ve found your perfect pup, how do you keep him happy and healthy? Kelly & Michael participated in a dog diet and fitness challenge with pet expert Andrea Arden to find out.
Joining Team Kelly was an adorable dog named Pee Week, and on Team Michael was a truly precious little one named Miley. Both dogs are in need of great homes, and can be adopted from the Animal Haven shelter!
Andrea Arden: Dog Do’s and Don’ts
First up, we learned how best to feed our dogs. Feeding multiple small meals rather than one big one is a ‘do,’ but feeding your dog from the same bowl all of the time is a ‘don’t.’ It’s a good idea to feed your dog from stuffable toys to offer enrichment. It’s also a ‘do’ to reward good behavior, and also stick to the same dog food brand.
Another surprising ‘do’ is that it’s okay to feed your dog the same food that you eat. However, don’t feed them from the table, only share healthy food, and do it in moderation.
Andrea Arden: Dog Obstacle Course
Andrea suggested building a dog obstacle course for your pet in order to keep him healthy. You can set up a board to provide balance, which is good for your dog’s core strength. Also, set up plungers and teach your dog how to weave in and out.
Just like with humans, obesity is also a problem in dogs in America. Don’t let your dog become overweight; keep him fit, happy, and healthy with lots of activity. And, for more helpful pet information, stay tuned to Live! for more of Bow Wow Week.
