Kelly & Michael: Mythbusters On Air For 12 Years
Kelly & Taye Diggs talked to Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage about their show Mythbusters, which they host, and which takes a look at modern myths. It airs on Saturdays on the Discovery Channel. Kelly was really excited. She said she’s in denial about how old her kids are getting, but she didn’t realize that they’re show has been on the air for 12 years. That’s so impressive!
Kelly & Michael: Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman Started in Special Effects
Kelly wondered what they were doing before and how they realized that they were good at debunking urban myths. They said that they actually came into it cold and were special effects technicians before the show. Hyneman did special effects in films and Savage did industrial light and magic. He worked on Star Wars, AI, and Space Cowboys. Kelly said that was so cool.

Diggs wondered if Savage and Hyneman ever had trouble saying the word “Mythbusters.” He said that was a very important question. They have problems all the time. It’s especially hard for Hyneman. They all took turns trying to say it.
Kelly & Michael: Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman Favorite Experiments
Kelly asked what their favorite experiment has been. There have been so many different things that were really cool. They broke the speed of sound with the Blue Angels, and Savage hand fed an octopus that “fell in love with me” and left hickies up to his shoulder. Kelly was really into that and said she would love to feed an octopus. Savage said that he apparently has skin that octopuses love. He’s met three of them and they’ve all done the same thing. They spent 30 minutes strapped to his arm.
Kelly then turned to Hyneman and asked him if he speaks. I was wondering the same thing. Diggs asked him what he does besides wear awesome hats. His favorite experiment, which is one of both of their favorites, is the lead balloon. It doesn’t involve any explosives or weapons or anything. Hyneman said it’s not spectacular, but they built a balloon out of 28 pounds of lead. It was 14 feet in diameter. They filled it with helium and it flew. That’s so cool! Hyneman said it’s all about the process. It was so fragile, but they made it work!
Kelly & Michael: Jamie Hyneman’s Moustache
Diggs also loved Hyneman’s moustache. Kelly wondered how he eats. Savage talked about it. He said the moustache comes out and sweeps the food in.
Kelly & Michael: Bed of Nails Myth & Behind the Myths Tour
Kelly & Taye Diggs busted some myths with Savage and Hyneman. They threw a watermelon on a bed of nails. Then Savage lay down on it. It was crazy. Diggs wanted to throw the watermelon on him. Hyneman put a cinderblock on him. Savage said that since there are so many nails, they each have little force. Kelly said he still seemed really unhappy. Kelly got to break the cinderblock with a sledgehammer. She lost it. The cinderblock landed on her foot. At least she was wearing goggles. The “Behind the Myths Tour” starts on June 21 in Las Vegas.
