Kelly & Michael: Michael Strahan Football Hall of Fame
Kelly Ripa began Monday’s post-Super Bowl show with the news that Michael Strahan will be inducted into the Football Hall of Fame in August 2014, which was announced February 1. Strahan got to make a grand entrance to a cheering receiving line of fans and a serious confetti shower.
“I don’t even know what to say,” Michael said, a bit embarrassed by all the attention. It was part of his exciting weekend. He spent Saturday with friends, having a great time no matter what the news may have been. “It was good to be around friends and family when I found out that I had made it in,” he said.
Kelly was on the edge of her seat waiting for the news, and she also attended her son’s first wrestling match over the weekend. While she was in the shower at home, she got a missed call, and she sat on the floor to call back, in case she might faint over the excitement.
Michael Strahan Parents Inspiration
Michael, who is losing his voice after a huge weekend, thanked all of his friends, family, and fans for their support and messages of congratulations over the past few days. He recalled wanting to quit after his first semester of college, but his parents encouraged him to keep going.
“If you do something, just don’t do it to do it. You’ve got to do it anyway. Be the best at it,” he said, passing on his father’s advice. Kelly pointed out that the odds of making it into pro football are small enough, but getting into the hall of fame is even more of a long shot.
Strahan said that he is more proud to share the honor with his parents, who always believed in him every step of the way. “Hopefully that makes up for me forgetting to wish my mom happy birthday on the air,” he joked.
Kelly and Michael: Super Bowl Blowout
The Super Bowl was quite a game for the Seattle Seahawks, who won 43-8 against the Denver Broncos. Kelly was due to lose a bet, and she finally did thanks to the Broncos, which means that she will have to skip a day with makeup later in the week.
“I felt really like it was your weekend from the get-go,” Ripa said. Michael began walking back the terms of the bet, because the game was such an overwhelming blowout. “I see myself without makeup every day. It doesn’t scare me anymore,” she said. “That’s Clooney’s problem.”
