Kelly & Michael: Vanessa Williams The Trip To Bountiful
With Kelly Ripa still enjoying her vacation, Michael Strahan was joined by guest co-host Vanessa Williams. It wasn’t planned, but Michael and Vanessa actually wore coordinating outfits. She is in New York working on a new play, The Trip to Bountiful, which will soon begin previews on Broadway.
The play is set in the 1950s and also stars Cecily Tyson and Cuba Gooding Jr. Rehearsals began on February 25, and on Saturday, March 30, they will perform in front of an audience for the first time. Vanessa, who considers herself to be a workaholic, is looking forward to performing eight shows a week.
According to Michael, only 40% of Americans consider themselves to be workaholics. When he asked the audience if they considered themselves to be workaholics, many people clapped. However, Michael admitted it was a trick question. They were skipping work to be at the show, so they’re clearly not very hard workers!
Vanessa Williams: Kim Kardashian Pregnancy Fashion
On yesterday’s show, Kim Kardashian appeared, and already her fashion choice is making headlines. Everything she wears is scrutinized, and now that she’s pregnant, it’s even more so. Michael was impressed with her high heels even though she did say she had bought her first pair of flats. Vanessa recalled wearing high heels at the Grammy Awards, where she sang “Save the Best for Last” while eight months pregnant.
Vanessa was pregnant for the first time in 1987, and back then, pregnancy fashions were a lot different. It wasn’t cool yet to show off the bump, and Vanessa remembers wearing a lot of big, flowy dresses. Pregnancy overalls were also popular, but she (thankfully) refused to give into that trend.
Vanessa and Kim both starred in the Tyler Perry film Temptation. It’s a small world on Live!
Vanessa Williams: 50th Birthday
Vanessa has been in show business for 30 years, and the 30th anniversary of her Miss America title is coming up in September. Amazingly, Vanessa just turned 50 on March 18. To celebrate, her mom threw her a luncheon with all of her closest friends.
Michael Strahan: Breaking Bad Script Stolen
Vanessa has starred in countless films and TV shows, but she’s never once lost a script. Unfortunately, Emmy winner Bryan Cranston can’t say the same. A script from Breaking Bad has gone missing after someone broke into his car and stole it. Bryan’s iPad was also stolen, but the iPad was found. An arrest has already been made but the script is still M.I.A.
Breaking Bad is one of the best shows on television and its final season is coming up later this year. I hope that no spoilers are leaked because of this incident!
Kelly & Michael: 80s Prom Looks
Michael and Vanessa checked out an article stating that the pompadour is back. Stars like Justin Timberlake and Miley Cyrus have been seen rocking the retro look. Michael never quite had a pompadour, but he did have some interesting 80s hair. He showed off his prom pictures with Kelly from last week’s prom-themed episode. Vanessa agreed that the 80s were definitely a bad era for everyone.
Michael Strahan: Food Store Charges Five Dollars To Get In
Would you pay five dollars just to walk into a store? Vanessa said she wouldn’t, but a specialty food store in New Zealand is doing just that. It’s supposed to encourage people to buy from their store rather than online. Then, when you purchase something, the five dollars goes towards your total.
Vanessa Williams: Dorothy Hamill Injured
Vanessa reported that Dorothy Hamill has been injured and is leaving Dancing with the Stars. She recently hurt her back, which makes it impossible for her to compete. Vanessa remembered “the Dorothy Hamill” haircut that every young girl seemed to have around the time that Dorothy won her Olympic Gold Medal in figure skating.
Michael hasn’t been watching Dancing with the Stars. Instead, he’s been catching the new reality show, Splash, where stars learn Olympic diving. He said it’s the kind of show that you find yourself watching for an entire hour and then ask yourself, “I’m still watching this?”
March Into Spring Travel Trivia: Florida Gulf Coast University
Caller Kevin won a trip to the Fairmont Mayakoba Resort in Riviera Maya, Mexico by answering the following question: In what city did Michael say that Florida Gulf Coast University is located? The answer is Ft. Myers, Florida. Plus, an audience member took home a set of Lenox China.
