Kelly & Michael: Team For Kids & Super Bowl Ads
Kelly Ripa announced she is running the Empire State Building Race for Team For Kids and Michael Strahan counted down the best Super Bowl commercials of all time.
Kelly and Michael: Can You Wear Leggings As Pants?
Kelly Ripa had such a great weekend that she said her skirt did not fit anymore. She took Lola shopping for “shirts that are long enough to wear with leggings,” since her daughter was committing a fashion crime by not understanding that “leggings are not pants.”
She said the shopping trip went well and she had a nice girls day out with her daughter. Despite the fact that they disagree on fashion trends, Kelly admitted that she employed some strategy in getting her daughter to buy clothes she approved of.
Kelly & Michael: Michael Strahan Stryker Spine
Michael Strahan did not have any football duty over the weekend. He did spend three hours in Miami and got a tease of the pleasant weather. He made an appearance at a Stryker Spine event in Florida.
After a quick trip to Florida, he returned to New Jersey and spent the weekend with his fiancee, Nicole. Kelly said she went to SoulCycle class on Saturday, and the weather was so cold that sweat froze on her workout pants.
Kelly and Michael: Super Bowl 2013 & NFL Hall of Fame
The Super Bowl is coming up this weekend, and Kelly is excited to find out who will be admitted to the NFL Hall of Fame on Saturday, February 2 2013. In addition to the big game, there are some big commercials coming up at Sunday’s big night.
“Sometimes the commercials are better than the game,” Michael said. The cost of a 30-second ad during the game is $3.8 million. Among the advertisers this year are Gildan Activewear (think Gold Toe socks), Sodastream, and Research In Motion, the makers of BlackBerry.
Michael said he did not appear in any Super Bowl commercials. I wonder what stars we will see during the breaks of next week’s game.
Kelly & Michael: Best Super Bowl Commercials of All Time
Michael shared a list of the top five Super Bowl commercials in the game’s history.
- Boy sucked into bottle, Pepsi, 1995
- Cedric the Entertainer, Bud Light, 2001
- Coke Delivery Man, Pepsi, 1996
- Michael Jordan Vs Bugs Bunny, Nike, 1992
- Michael Jordan Vs Larry Bird, McDonald’s, 1993
What is your favorite Super Bowl commercial? Kelly said she liked the little boy as Darth Vader from more recent years. Michael said he is partial to the Clydesdale horses from Budweiser.
Michael’s fiancee, Nicole, was in a Diet Pepsi commercial with Ray Charles years ago. But he said he could not find it online.
Kelly and Michael: Empire State Building Race
Kelly Ripa had a stunning confession: she is competing in the 2013 Empire State Building Race. She said she committed to do it for the charity Team for Kids, which helps provide low-cost health and fitness options for kids.
She said she is going public to raise money for the foundation and guilt herself into going through with the race. After Kelly agreed to participate, she read a New York Times Magazine article about how exhausting and hellish it will be to run to the top of the Empire State Building.
Kelly Ripa: Team For Kids Charity
Michael hoped that everyone would support and encourage Kelly to raise money for charity. She said that you can donate whether you like her or not, because either way the kids will win.
A German man has won the last seven years and is back for an eighth victory. Kelly said she has no illusions of winning the competition, and certainly cannot complete the course in 10 minutes.
“I thought about it, and then I realized they invented elevators for a reason,” Michael said. Kelly is just in it to finish and get a participation medal.
Kelly said she has heard many horror stories about what happens to marathon runners who lose control of their bodies. Michael said that the show will surely have cameras following Kelly on her journey.
Kelly & Michael: West Coast Flu Season
After weeks of flu season hitting the East Coast hard, it is now moving to the west. Even Oscar host Seth MacFarlane, who was supposed to be a guest on the show, has been sidelined. He had to reschedule his appearance, but Dustin Hoffman will be on the show to talk about his work as a director.
Kelly suggested that Gelman give him some herbs or supplements that he always has on hand. Kelly said she is afraid to take things that Gelman gives her, but the producer refused to take the blame. Apparently you never know what Gelman is going to pull out of his pocket.
