Kelly & Michael: Pope Francis Elected
After Kelly & Michael received a warm welcome from their Thursday morning audience, they discussed the news that’s been making headlines all around the world: the election of Pope Francis. Catholics are very pleased by the election of Pope Francis, the first Latin American Pope and the first Jesuit Pope. He was born in Argentina as Jorge Mario Bergoglio and chose the name Francis as an homage to Saint Francis of Assisi, the Patron Saint of Italy, who was known for his devotion to the plight of animals and the poor.
Kelly recalled first hearing the news from the TV. She was standing in her kitchen, in front of the Pepperidge Farm Goldfish that she gave up for Lent (don’t worry, she didn’t cheat), and became very emotional.
Kelly Ripa: Gaynor Gala Hosted By Seth Myers
Kelly also shared news of the 2013 Gaynor Gala, which she attended last night with Mark. The annual benefit raises money for New York’s Stephen Gaynor School, where Kelly’s son, Joaquin, is a student. Joaquin has dyslexia, and Kelly refers to his teachers as “Saints.” Saturday Night Live’s Seth Meyers hosted the event, and his “unbelievably funny” jokes featured comparisons between his public school upbringing and the incredible teachers at the Gaynor School. Mary J. Blige performed two songs including “Family Affair.”
Kelly & Michael: Cereal Taste Test
Finally, in a shortened Host Chat, Kelly & Michael both tasted a new cereal that’s been causing quite a stir. Eating the cereal is supposed to inspire feelings of romance. The hosts used the opportunity mostly to make jokes with Gelman and Art Moore, but Michael did admit that he felt a bit of “tingling” running through him!
