Live with Kelly & Michael: Miss Universe & Claire Danes Baby
Kelly and Michael discussed the winner of the 2012 Miss Universe pageant, Claire Danes baby news, and the trend of self gifting. In the crowd, two audience members had cutouts of Kelly and Michael’s smiling faces glued to popsicle sticks. I guess anything goes on what Kelly Ripa kept reminding us is the last day on earth.
Kelly & Michael: Miss Universe Olivia Culpo
At the 2012 Miss Universe pageant, Miss USA Olivia Culpo took home the crown. But Kelly was incredulous that there are so many flawlessly beautiful women around the world. Michael Strahan said he doesn’t understand how the judging works, and doesn’t think he would be a very good judge because he thinks they are all great.
“They almost look blurry, they’re so pretty,” Kelly said.
Live with Kelly & Michael: Women With Short Hair
A recent news story profiled actresses who have made the short hair look work for them. The list included Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron, who did it for movie roles. Kellie Pickler shaved her head to support a friend going through chemotherapy.
Miley Cyrus did it just for fun, to show off her wild side. The Live team even Photoshopped Kelly’s face onto a shaved head. She does not believe that her head is round, and thinks she would not look good with short hair.
Kelly Ripa Hair Extensions
Kelly threatened to take out her hairpiece, despite objections from Michael and Gelman. She thinks her hair gadget is ingenious. Her husband, Mark Consuelos, said that her beauty tricks, such as fake eyelashes and platform heels, are unfair. Kelly even called herself a “human pinata.”
She recalled taking out her glue-in hair extensions. Instead, she got the wigstad by stylist Ryan Trygstad, which is I guess a partial wig attached to a headband. She whipped it off, and Michael Strahan observed that she really doesn’t need the hair help. That’s when she put the wig on Michael. You know we’re going to be seeing that clip for years.
Kelly Ripa said that she doesn’t know how to do her own hair anymore, because she gets it done at the show every day. But this wig headband has simplified her routine of getting ready. Take a look.
Kelly & Michael: Winter Blizzard Snowstorm
Your holiday travel plans could be in jeopardy. A blizzard is heading for the plains and the Midwest, threatening 5 million people with over a foot of snow. New Yorkers will miss out on a white Christmas, but the Midwest might be juggling holiday plans. Do you think the weather will affect your holiday travel?
Kelly and Michael: Doc McStuffins Toy
Recently, a toy expert showed Kelly and Michael the Doc McStuffins toy, predicting it would be the year’s most popular kids gift. Now no one can find one in stores. Kelly recalled the craze over the Furby and the Cabbage Patch Doll.
The new hot toy for 2012 is Doc McStuffins, and there seems to be a shortage everywhere. Michael had a toy of his own, a dancing Santa Claus that jiggles to the Aretha Franklin classic “Respect.” Speaking of Aretha Franklin, she is scheduled to visit the Live Christmas Eve show on Monday, December 24 2012.
Kelly & Michael: Christmas Shopping & Self Gifting
Michael Strahan said he has been buying gifts, but he tends to overbuy so that he ends up getting the right thing. He did admit that he has picked up a thing or two for himself, which Kelly Ripa said is called “self gifting.” Apparently, 60% of shoppers are doing this in 2012.
Michael said he is glad to hear that, because he felt guilty for a moment. Kelly admitted she does this as well.
The co-hosts agreed that they don’t ask for presents from their significant others, because everyone tends to buy what they want for themselves year round. What is your policy for exchanging gifts with your spouse?
Kelly and Michael: Time Person of the Year Barack Obama
Time Magazine named President Barack Obama person of the year. In a candid photo from the magazine, President Obama is playfully reacting to a child in a Spider-Man costume shooting a fake web at him. Kelly said it was very nice of the president to play along.
Kelly & Michael: Claire Danes Baby with Hugh Dancy
Claire Danes and Hugh Dancy have an extra reason to celebrate over the holidays. Homeland star Claire Danes just gave birth to their first child, Cyrus Michael Christopher. The co-hosts agreed that they love Homeland, and Michael recalled that Claire Danes was his first guest interview since officially being named a permanent co-host.
The office apparently exchanges conference calls and email chains discussing episodes and plot twists. I have yet to catch up on the two seasons of drama and intrigue, but it’s near the top of my list.
Fall Into The Holidays Trivia: Grease Duet
Connie Zimmerman from Elgin, Illinois was the day’s trivia caller. She was playing for a trip to the Turtle Bay Resort in Hawaii. What song did John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John say was the biggest selling duet of all time?
Of course, the answer is “You’re The One That I Want,” and Connie even got to help an audience member win a collection of Lenox China.
