Kelly & Michael: Food Pictures
Kelly Ripa was excited for Chef Alton Brown to come to cook today. She also loves the dining section of the New York Times. They have it every Wednesday. They’ve been talking about a new trend, which is taking pictures of your food and tweeting about it. Neil Patrick Harris does it. So now chefs are focusing more on the presentation of the food rather than the food itself. Michael Strahan said he’s seen some that look too pretty to eat. This is especially true with sushi.
Kelly & Michael: Alton Brown Check In

Alton Brown was making grilled watermelon and there was a picture of it in the paper. Each week chefs are asked to incorporate a farm fresh ingredient in their recipe. You can make the dish and send a food selfie to win a $500 gift card to Omaha Steaks. You can also win a trip to New York to see the show. The superstar chef who gets the most food selfies wins the trophy. They checked in with Alton Brown. He was grilling watermelon. He really wanted the trophy. He also had watermelon pickles and watermelon sorbet. He said people don’t realize that watermelon is good on a grill. It gets hot and tasty. He told them to hurry up because it’s going to rain.
Kelly & Michael: Summer Trends
Kelly brought up summer trends, but some of them are hard to sport and some of them are easier to sport. One of the hottest trends is ugly sandals. Kelly said they’re comfort footwear. They’re Birkenstocks. Crop tops are also big this summer. Kelly was wearing one, but she likes long crop tops. The western look is also big this summer. It’s a hat, boots, scarf, and saddle bag. It’s more popular out west. Kelly always wears a little boot with a dress, but Michael doesn’t understand how you can do that in the summer.
Kelly & Michael: The Blair Witch Project Turns 15
Michael said he always judges his age by movies. The Blair Witch Project is actually 15 years old. Michael said that it feels like it just happened. In tribute of the movie, they pulled out flashlights and shined them under their faces, turned out the lights, started whispering about being scared, and shook the camera around. I loved when Kelly asked, “Are you a good witch or a bad witch?” It was actually a very low budget movie. It cost $60,000 and made $141 million domestically. It was a game changer and led to all of these other films.
At the end of the day, people don’t care about all of the special effects because what you conjure up in your brain is more terrifying. The movie came out in 1999, and all these other movies started coming out after 2009. Michael’s favorite scary movie is The Exorcist. Kelly talked about The Omen. Michael didn’t like that. He said that evil children could be real.
Michael talked about Return of the Body Snatchers and Jaws. Kelly brought up the movie Magic, about the ventriloquist dummy that took over his owner. They also talked about Michael Meyers. Michael said that people always trip, but he never tripped. He was like Jason from Friday the 13th.
