Cedric The Entertainer stars as an R&B singer-turned-preacher on the TV Land series The Soul Man, which recently concluded its second season. After a life in Las Vegas, he felt called to the gospel in St. Louis.

Along with his wife, a beauty salon owner played by Niecy Nash, a daughter, a brother and his father, Cedric’s character must adjust to a dramatically different lifestyle.

Niecy Nash gave her own romantic advice to Katie viewers on the show, saying once you get the right guy, “you gotta keep him out of the streets and in your sheets.”

Katie Couric: Vanessa Williams Miss America

Three decades ago, Vanessa Williams blazed a new trail as the first African American woman to win the Miss America pageant. A scandal meant she had to give up the title, but that didn’t slow her down at all. She turned into a phenomenally talented entertainer.

In 2013, she has been starring in the revival of The Trip To Bountiful on Broadway, along with Cicely Tyson, who won a Tony Award for the role. Having seen the show myself, I can say that both women’s performances were amazing.
