Audra McDonald was honored at the 2014 Tony Awards for her performance as Billie Holliday in the production Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill. The honor, GMA said, makes her a six-time Tony winner, topping previous record-holders Angela Lansbury and Julie Harris.
McDonald gave an emotional acceptance speech, and she said in part, “I want to thank my mom and my dad up in heaven for disobeying the doctor’s orders and not medicating their hyperactive girl, and finding out what she was into instead, and pushing her into the theatre,” she said.
George Stephanopoulos said she made an important point. Robin Roberts said her entire speech was wonderful. “Do yourself a favor and see this woman on Broadway,” Roberts said.
GMA: Finding Love on Social Networks
People have been finding love online for years, but according to a new study, more people are doing this on social networks rather than dating sites. Could you go from ‘Like’ to love? The Washington Post reported that social media may be more successful.
The study found that about 21% of those who found a spouse and got married between 2005-2012 met this way. ABC News’s Dan Harris wondered whether people are looking for lasting relationships online, or a quick connection.
The study was authored by a professor at the University of Kansas, and a similar percentage met offline in school. Lara Spencer seemed enamored of this study, and then she brought up the app Tinder, which is more about the moment than a relationship.
Good Morning America: Ginger Zee Wedding Photos
Good Morning America’s Ginger Zee is a married woman. She tied the knot in a lakeside wedding in Michigan. She and husband Ben looked great in the photos taken by Michael Murphy IV.
She wore a Pnina Tornai gown, which was featured on GMA recently. There were just 55 guests at the wedding, and they danced to Zee’s brother’s band, The Outer Vibe. Fittingly, the weather was perfect. The couple is now on their honeymoon.
