Good Morning America: Joey King White House Down
Joey King, who plays the daughter to Channing Tatum‘s character in White House Down, sat down with Channing to talk about the relationship the two developed together. In playing a father and daughter in the movie, Channing said that he had developed something of a paternal relationship with Joey, who he called his “little buddy.” Channing said that he hopes his daughter one day grows to be half the girl that Joey is. D’aww!
GMA: Channing Tatum On Acting As A Father

Channing said that playing the role of a father was totally new to him, and had to find a whole different part of himself. Channing said that Jamie Foxx told him he had to learn how to be both a father and a buddy with Joey to make the part work, and it apparently worked, because Joey said that he did a “pleasant job” playing her father. Joey said Channing was fun and playful, and said that she was really happy for him and his wife Jenna. Heaping on yet another bit of praise, Joey said she thought the two would make wonderful parents, and Channing a great father.
White House Down also, as Josh Elliot pointed out, tells the story of a father trying to make amends with a daughter that he might not have had the best relationship with in the past. Apparently, the movie isn’t just about guts, glory, and guns blazing, but also about a man that is trying to fix a relationship that he broke a long time ago.
Good Morning America: Channing Tatum & Joey King’s Secret Handshake
Channing Tatum and Joey King, in a display of cutesy camaraderie, showed America their secret handshake, which Channing and Joey colloquially called the “Chanshake” (GET IT?!). These two must have had quite a bit of time off camera to perfect this thing, because it was a 45-second masterpiece of dancing, singing, and high-fiving the likes of which even the most bro-tastic fraternity has ever seen.
