GMA: Rachel Weisz Oz the Great and Powerful
Actress Rachel Weisz stopped by Good Morning America March 9 2013 to talk about her new film, Oz the Great and Powerful. Several of the actors from the film have come by GMA in recent weeks, including Michelle Williams and James Franco. Now it was Weisz’s turn. She said she thought that this film was a love letter to the 1939 classic film with Judy Garland, The Wizard Of Oz. L. Frank Baum wrote 14 books in the series and this film is based on the book that came before the book the Judy Garland version was based on.

GMA: Rachel Weisz Was a Tomboy
Lara Spencer asked Rachel Weisz if being in this movie was a fantasy for her as a child. Weisz said that Oz wasn’t really on her radar as a child and that she never thought she’d be in the movie. She said she was a tomboy and really into climbing trees.
GMA: Rachel Weisz Oz Character
Rachel Weisz said that it was really fun to play a witch who gets so much pleasure out of being a villain. She said this was the first film she’s ever done that wasn’t set on planet Earth. I found that really interesting, especially considering that I know her best from The Mummy franchise where she did battle with, among other things, a mummy and a scorpion king. That movie was far more exciting than a lot of her other movies, say, for instance, The Constant Gardener, where she did battle with a really boring movie title, unlawful human drug testing and a really boring plot.
GMA: Rachel Weisz Did Her Own Stunts
Rachel Weisz said it was really fun doing her own stunts. She said that all of the actors in the film got to have flying lessons. Mila Kunis plays the witch who will become the Wicked Witch of the East, so she got a broomstick as a prop to fly with, and Michelle Williams plays Glinda the Good Witch, who flies around in a bubble. Rachel Weisz’s character doesn’t have a prop to work with, so she said it was really interesting to learn how to fly unassisted.
Rachel Weisz: What Her Son Thinks Of Her Job
Rachel Weisz said that her son is very unimpressed with her job. She said he’s always making Lego empires in his bedroom and that he really isn’t interested in what she does, or even what her husband, James Bond himself, Daniel Craig, does for a living. Even if in her case her job is flying around in a sequin dress.
