Good Morning America: Jessica Chastain in Lawless
Oscar nominee Jessica Chastain stopped by Good Morning America to talk about her new role in the movie Lawless. The film, set in prohibition-era Virginia, is about a band of bootleggers.

“I am such a fan of costumes and that time period for women was so beautiful.” Chastain said. “I was drawn to the character because she’s from Chicago, she’s very experienced with men and she goes on the run and she ends up in Franklin County, Virginia with these men who really aren’t experienced with women…but very experienced with violence. It was a fun contradiction to play.”

GMA’s Lara Spencer asked Chastain what it was like to work with an all-star cast that includes Shia LaBeouf, Guy Pearce and Gary Oldman.
“It was amazing!” Chastain said. “I mean it started out in the beginning though I will say I was the only girl in this great cast of men and the first week I was like, ‘This is awesome!’ they were all treating me like a princess and they were very gentlemanly around me. Then after a few weeks when Mia Wasikowska showed up – she’s also in the film she’s wonderful – I had never met her before, I ran into the makeup trailer and just threw my arms around her and went, ‘It’s a girl!’ and I was so happy to have that feminine energy and we went and got manicures immediately. It was a good fun.”

Life after the Oscars didn’t change much for Chastain. She was already working on the Kathryn Bigelow movie Zero Dark Thirty, and flew straight to India the day after the Oscars to film for it.

“I know the ending,” Chastain said. “It’s about the hunt for Osama bin Laden, and the ensemble of actors is across the board fantastic. Kathryn Bigelow is one of the best directors I’ve ever worked with. The script is phenomenal and my part was really good so I’m excited to see this film come together.”
