Good Morning America: Colin Firth and Emma Stone
Colin Firth and Emma Stone star in Woody Allen’s new film Magic in the Moonlight. Colin Firth plays Stanley, a world-class magician and major skeptic. Emma Stone plays Sophie, a fortuneteller. When Stanley tries to expose Sophie as a fake, he begins to fall for her.
GMA: Magic in the Moonlight Review
A clip from Magic in the Moonlight shows Emma Stone telling Colin Firth that he would be happy if she was a fraud, because then his worldview wouldn’t be “shaken up.” George Stephanopoulos asked what it was like to work together, and Emma Stone said terrible. Colin Firth said he had a good time, but that Emma Stone had a terrible time. I think they were kidding, but Emma Stone’s sense of humor is so dry that it’s kind of hard to tell.
Good Morning America: Working with Woody Allen
Emma Stone has been a longtime Woody Allen fan, and even named one of her dogs Alvy after Alvy Singer in the movie Annie Hall. George Stephanopoulos asked how Woody Allen felt about that, and Emma Stone said, “He doesn’t know that, oh God.”
Colin Firth said that it was daunting to work with Woody Allen for the first time, because he’s always someone that he’s admired. He said he can remember seeing so many of his movies, and even remembers where he was when he saw each one of them. Colin Firth said it’s also different because you don’t rehearse or anything before filming, you just show up to the first day ready to begin filming.
Emma Stone said shooting the movie in the South of France was absolutely stunning. She also enjoyed the 1920s setting for the movie.
GMA: Unlikable Character
Colin Firth’s character, Stanley, is a fairly unlikable character, and he said that was a bit hard because he wanted to be unlikable. However, he’s very arrogant and self-assured. He thought some of the lines would be cut, but they never were.
Right now the two are shooting a new Woody Allen in Rhode Island, though they didn’t say much about the project.
