Channing Tatum‘s role in White House Down pits Channing and Jamie Foxx against terrorists plotting to take over the White House in this summer blockbuster, and judging by a clip showing a clip showing Tatum readying himself to rush into the White House after his captured daughter before an air strike destroys it, it looks like it’s going to be big.

GMA: Channing Tatum Almost Not In White House Down

Channing Tatum is not just looking to save the president and the free world, but his daughter as well, in White House Down. Even though that sounds like a pretty exciting role, Tatum wasn’t sure at first he wanted to play the part. He gets a lot of scripts trying to shoehorn him into an action movie role, which he is shaky on.

However, being the Die Hard and Independence Day fan that he is, Channing decided to take the role.

Not only was Channing Tatum sold on the action movie idea because it sounded cool, but also off his first meeting with director Roland Emmerich, who he clicked with very quickly. Channing said that the movies someone directs reflect them as a person – if you have style, the movie will have style. If you are funny, the movie will be funny. Well, Emmerich had quite a bit of style, and Channing latched onto White House Down because of it.

Channing Tatum not only felt like a bond with Roland Emmerich, but also with co-star Jamie Foxx. In the movie, they are playing the parts of people that come from two different worlds, but off  the set, they got along almost immediately, according to Tatum. Jamie Foxx also, with the permission of Roland Emmerich, did quite a bit of improvisation in the movie that inspired Channing. While filming one scene, Jamie slipped and bashed Channing on the head with a rocket launcher, and they decided to keep it to add some comedic flair to the move.

Channing Tatum and wife Jenna Dewan-Tatum recently welcomed their daughter Everly into the world, and 26 days into parenthood, Channing is loving it. Though he has lost quite a bit of sleep, he said he has never been so excited when something poos, because he wants to get into the game and do something after his wife spent the first few weeks doing all the work. He said he has gotten very good at changing diapers and swaddling the baby.

Channing said that it was a little strange having his first daughter in a movie, all while finding out that he was having his first daughter in reality. As for Jenna, Channing said she has been doing well, referring to her as “tough as nails” because of how well she handled the fist few weeks of having the baby.
