Good Morning America: Gatsby Stars on the Cannes Red Carpet
The Cannes Film Festival kicked off Wednesday night with a single film screening of Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby. Although it was raining, neither the mood nor the glamour was dampened. Stars poured onto the red carpet in vintage inspired fashions.

The Great Gatsby star Carey Mulligan wore a pale pink Dior gown and her co-star Isla Fisher walked the carpet in a red tiered Oscar de la Renta. Gatsby leading men Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire looked dapper and charming while allowing themselves to get soaking wet by giving their umbrellas to the ladies in couture, like the gentlemen they are.

Slits and elaborate embellishments were among the popular trends on the red carpet. Nicole Kidman stunned in a floral, beaded Dior gown with a modern hemline, paired with pink Jimmy Choo heels. Julianne Moore chose a black and lavender pocketed Dior, but her shoes seemed to be a little small, showing a little too much toe. Cindy Crawford looked beautiful as ever in a white, Grecian-inspired Roberto Cavalli, highlighting her curves.

The Cannes Film Festival lasts for 12 days and will show a total of 20 films throughout. GMA said the festival is like “Oscars on steroids for a dozen days,” with stars pulling out all the stops to be the best dressed on the red carpets.
Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Carrey Mulligan and Isla Fisher premiered first, but will fight with 19 other films over the next two weeks to be named “Best Picture.”
