GMA: Michael Mosley The Fast Diet
A few weeks ago, Good Morning America reported on The Fast Diet. Now, the creator of the diet, Dr. Michael Mosley, author of the New York Times bestselling book The Fast Diet, came on GMA March 19 2013 for his first American television interview to talk about the diet. The idea behind the diet is that for two days a week, you have an extreme diet, but on the other five days, you can eat whatever you like. The last time GMA covered it, a woman named Tara McLaughlin said she lost 36 pounds over seven months from the diet. She said that her appetite is reduced, so even when she wants to eat a lot, she finds she can’t. But some experts say that it’s impossible to know whether the diet is safe without more human testing.

Dr. Michael Mosley said that a good example of a breakfast during the fast days would be oatmeal and blueberries, which is only about 250 calories.
Michael Mosley: What Can You Eat On The Fast Diet?
Dr. Michael Mosley’s diet says that women must limit themselves to 500 calories and men must limit themselves to 600 calories on the fasting days. He showed off some meals that people may have while fasting to give ideas. One meal was blueberries and oatmeal, which he said was only 250 calories. He said that you can also have an orange, but not orange juice, because the fiber in the orange is important. This would be followed by a later meal of a salad with lots of vegetables with some chicken. He said he’ll have a meal at 7:30 in the morning and then another one at 7:30 at night. He said the first few weeks are tough, but after that, it gets better. He said that not all calories are created equal and that it’s important to get the nutrients and fiber you need on fast days. Water is very important for the diet, because a lot of times people may think they’re hungry when they’re really dehydrated.
Michael Mosley: Is The Fast Diet Safe?
Dr. Michael Mosley said that he’s met with several American and UK researchers and that the diet has been studied in both countries and there have been lots of human trials. He said he wouldn’t recommend it for teenagers, women who are pregnant and women who are breastfeeding. But he said this diet does speed up the metabolism. He said some critics say that it slows down the metabolism, but that is only a concern if you were fasting for weeks at a time. He said he believes the diet is safe.
