Ellen: Padma Lakshmi Top Chef
Padma Lakshmi came by Ellen to make her Homemade Tortilla Chips recipe and to talk about the new season of Top Chef. The new season was filmed in Boston, which Padma Lakshmi said was great because she went to college in Massachusetts.
Season 12 of Top Chef premieres October 15 on Bravo.
Ellen TV: Padma Lakshmi Super Taster
Padma Lakshmi said she was a super taster, which she just found out about. A super taster is someone who can taste things other people can’t, like how dogs can hear things people can’t. She was asked to do a flavor test, where she tasted several things and they didn’t tell her what it was. One of the tastes normal people can’t register, but it tasted really bitter to her. It was chicory, but most people can’t taste the bitterness of the flavor.

In addition to the below Tortilla Chips recipe, Padma Lakshmi also made a delicious-looking pumpkin and edamame dish. But the segment was so chaotic, I couldn’t follow what was happening. One cool thing though was that she served it in the pumpkins themselves. That certainly saves on dishes!
Anyway, Padma Lakshmi said her Homemade Tortilla Chips recipe was perfect for your kids. When Ellen said she doesn’t have any kids, Padma told her that her dog might love tortilla chips. Check out this fun recipe below!
Ellen TV: Padma Lakshmi Homemade Tortilla Chips Recipe Ingredients
- 3 8-Inch Tortillas
- Canola Oil
Sweet Tortilla Chips Ingredients
- Pinch of Ground Cinnamon
- Pinch of Sugar
Salty Tortilla Chips Ingredients
- Pinch of Salt
- Pinch of Rosemary
- Pinch of Black Pepper
Padma Lakshmi: Ellen Homemade Tortilla Chips Recipe Directions
- Stack the tortillas and cut them into six small triangles.
- Fill about an inch of canola oil in a pan and heat it up.
- Working in batches, fry the tortillas in the oil, cooking each for about a minute and a half to two minutes, flipping once halfway through. When they’re done, they should be a great shade of golden brown.
- Remove to a paper towel-lined plate. Once cooled, add the tortillas to a paper bag and shake them up with either the salty tortilla or sweet tortilla seasonings.
