Ellen: Taylor Swift and Zac Efron
Ellen DeGeneres started the show today with a very excited audience. She assumed that they were worked up to see today’s celebrity guests, Taylor Swift and Zac Efron.
As a New Orleans native, Ellen has a special place in her heart for Mardi Gras.
Ellen: Mardi Gras
Today is Fat Tuesday, part of the Mardi Gras holiday. She observed that this is the first drinking holiday of the year, “unless…you count Presidents Day.” Ellen grew up in New Orleans, and she loves the tradition of Mardi Gras.
Though the holiday may be notorious for revelers drinking and flashing people, “they know how to celebrate. There are parades and music and dancing. It’s a lot like this show, actually,” she said.
Ellen reported that last weekend’s Mardi Gras festivities went on as planned in New Orleans, despite rainy weather. She suggested that you visit New Orleans for your next vacation, especially if “your hair does well in humidity.” She dedicated her dance to the people of New Orleans.

Ellen: Brad Pitt Make It Right New Orleans
Ellen said she is planning to visit New Orleans soon. She will be working with actor Brad Pitt and the Make It Right Foundation, which is doing charitable work in the Louisiana city.
Oscars 2012: Ellen DeGeneres MovieFone Giveaway
This year’s Oscars are coming up on Sunday, February 26, 2012. Ellen is helping viewers get ready for the show by talking about her favorite films of the past year. Her articles are being posted this week on the Moviefone website at moviefone.com.
Ellen gave everyone in her audience a $100 gift card to Moviefone, so they can have a chance to see some good movies.
The Oscars will air Sunday night on ABC.

Ellen showed some YouTube videos to her audience. In the first one, a dog fit three tennis balls in its mouth.

Ellen shared another video of babies covered in baby food. One baby looked very serious with orange baby food on his eyebrows.
Ellen: Lisa Jarmon Surprise
Ellen shared a video featuring one of her favorite audience members, Lisa Jarmon. In January 2012, Ellen gave her all the prizes from her annual 12 Days Of Giveaways, as well as a JC Penney gift card.
Ellen had a big surprise for Lisa later in the show. “You have so many hardships, and even through that, you are so positive,” Ellen said. She said she loves the way Lisa reacts to surprises.
She said that she had an oxygen tank ready and an EMT standing by in case Lisa is overwhelmed by her surprise.
Ellen: JC Penney Controversy
One of the prizes Lisa Jarmon received in a previous appearance was a JC Penney gift card.
Recently, Ellen DeGeneres became a celebrity spokesperson for JC Penney. But this decision was met with criticism from a group called One Million Moms, who apparently felt that Ellen did not reflect the family-friendly image of the JC Penney department store chain.
JC Penney did not give in to the pressure from this group, and Ellen even addressed the controversy on her show. Fans of Ellen reached out to her, the show, and JC Penney, in support of her spots in the new advertising campaign.
JC Penney Rebranding
JC Penney recently rebranded their stores, featuring a new logo and fresh approach to sales. They spoke out in support of Ellen and said they are proud to have her represent them.
Is Ellen Offensive?
I can’t understand what Ellen does that could offend anyone. I guess these moms were upset because Ellen is a lesbian. While that was the subject of controversy in the 1990s, it’s certainly old news at this point, and Ellen has appeared in ads for a variety of brands and products since then.
Also, her talk show is wholesome and lighthearted, and it’s something you could watch with your children. I’m not sure what the fuss was about, but good for JC Penney not being bullied by a small group of complainers.
