Zooey Deschanel: 2012 Emmys and Louis C.K. Face

Zooey Deschanel is the hilarious and “adorkable” star of New Girl. For her role as Jess Day, Zooey was recently nominated at the 2012 Emmy Awards. When she joined Ellen, Zooey said that the event was “very hot, but very fun.” However, in true quirky Zooey style, she had more than her fair share of mishaps and funny moments while attending the ceremony.

Zooey was a presenter for Best Comedy Writing along with Jim Parsons. When the award went to comedian Louis C.K., Zooey got so excited that she just couldn’t hide it. “Have you ever met him before?” Ellen asked. “No!” Zooey admitted. She doesn’t even know why she became so excited. She also didn’t realize the faces she had made up on stage until people started tweeting her pictures.

Before the show, on the red carpet, Zooey was late and ended up getting stuck in line behind Nicole Kidman. Now, Zooey is a big star herself, but for some reason, she believed that nobody would be wanting to take her picture while Nicole was there. Trying to “just be polite,” she simply stood in the corner  and waited for her turn. However, the photographers were taking her picture, so now the resulting images are pretty funny. “That’s the face of someone who’s given up,” Zooey said of one of her pictures.

Zooey Deschanel: Zucchini Picture and Vegetable Garden

Another photo of Zooey that intrigued Ellen was one of the starlet cradling a large zucchini. When asked to explain, Zooey said that she had grown the zucchini in her very own vegetable garden. “That was the only way I could hold it that didn’t look obscene!” Zooey said of the funny picture.

Zooey has a gardener come and help her with her garden (how fancy) where she also grows squash, strawberries, and apples and oranges from her trees.

Zooey Deschanel: Joseph Gordon-Levitt

Zooey is good friends with actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who was her co-star in (500) Days of Summer . Joseph is set to appear on Ellen September 26, so Ellen asked Zooey, what should we know about Joseph (to use in order to embarrass him, of course).

Zooey said Joseph is really good at gymnastics, and he can do a back handspring. She also said that he’ll do them almost every time he’s asked, so Ellen said she will definitely try. “If he doesn’t, you have to bring me some zucchinis,” Ellen said.

Zooey Deschanel: New Girl Season 2

Zooey’s hit sitcom is called New Girl, where she stars as a teacher who lives with three guys played by Max Greenfield, Lamorne Morris, and Jake Johnson. Season two is about to begin, and in the first episode, Jess gets fired from her job, which is very fun for Zooey to play.

Zooey works long hours on the set, and she uses a special Ellen bike (with Ellen’s face on the wheels) to get around the lot where New Girl shoots. Zooey’s sister, Emily Deschanel, works on the same lot filming Bones, so she uses her bike to get back and forth.

Zooey Deschanel: Ellen Disguise

Zooey told Ellen that she’s getting recognized more and more because of the success of her show, and it’s becoming increasingly difficult to get around undetected. She used to try and wear her glasses to disguise herself, but that doesn’t work anymore, since she wears the same glasses on New Girl. But Ellen had the perfect solution! She gave Zooey a hat with dreadlocks and sign that read “I am NOT Zooey Deschanel.” That should work like a charm!
