Ellen: Julianne Moore On Her Kids
Four-time Academy Award nominee Julianne Moore came by Ellen to talk about Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1. She said both of her kids are very excited about her being in the movie and they’re the reason she wanted to do the movie. Julianne’s 12-year-old daughter got to come on the set and met Jennifer Lawrence and her daughter was starstruck.
Ellen wondered whether Julianne’s daughter was Team Peeta or Team Gale. “I don’t think she’d turn down either one of them, honestly,” she joked.

Julianne said she didn’t think her kids wanted to be in the film business. Her daughter just changed schools and Julianne wanted her to join the drama club but her daughter said that wasn’t cool. Julianne said she was in the drama club, but then it occurred to her she wasn’t that cool back then. Ellen said at least she’s cool now.
“Well, you know, maybe to middle-aged women I’m cool,” she joked.
“That is not true. You’re cool to every person of every age,” Ellen said.

Julianne Moore plays the leader of the revolution in the new movie. She said she liked being in charge. It took them about a year to film the movie, because it was two movies back to back. Julianne Moore got to film another movie called Still Alice right in the middle of shooting her role in Mockingjay.

Ellen said that Julianne Moore is excellent in Still Alice and Julianne Moore is getting Oscar buzz for it. In the movie, she stars alongside Alec Baldwin and Kristin Stewart. Ellen said it was brilliant and heartbreaking.
Julianne Moore said it’s based on a book of the same name. It’s about a 50-year-old woman who has early onset Alzheimer’s Disease. It’s a really sad movie, but she said it’s also about who we are as human beings. Julianne Moore plays the woman and the character is also a linguistics professor, so communication is really important to the character. Julianne Moore said the movie is really about how to not take things for granted.

Julianne Moore and Ellen played a game with two audience members who competed for the chance to go to the premiere of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1. Jada and Ellie were the two women playing the game. In this game, the two of them had to stand behind cardboard cutouts of Katniss with their faces in the cutout. Whoever got the pie in their face first wins the tickets.
Julianne Moore said she was really bad at sports. That’s why she was in the drama club in school. Ellen hit hers immediately, but Julianne was really bad. Finally, Ellen walked up and smashed that girl in the face. Ultimately, both girls got tickets to see the premiere.
