Ellen: What’s In The Box?
Ellen played What’s in the Box? with her audience today, where audience members chose from three different boxes to see if they won a prize. The first woman up chose a box and it was an Ellen rock with a certificate of authenticity. But then it turned out the woman had really won a $500 Crate & Barrel gift card.
The next woman chose box number 2, which had a candy necklace. She was really excited about it. But it turned out there was a $1,000 Visa gift card in there, too.
Ellen: TCL Roku TV Review
Ellen spent some time choosing the next person from the audience, who all really wanted to play. For the first time in the history of the show, Ellen chose this woman to represent the entire audience. Whatever she chose, everyone got one of those. She had to choose between what’s behind a red curtain, what’s behind a wall, and a box. Ellen said she was feeling the wall and the audience cheered it, so the woman chose the wall.
The prize was a 40 inch TCL Roku TV. This TV is a simplified smart TV that lets you enjoy endless entertainment with a personalized home screen that lets you access favorites, including more than 1500 streaming channels.
Ellen: Mario Lopez Trivia Game
Later on in the show, guest Mario Lopez joined Ellen in playing a trivia game in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month. The two women chosen to play were named Jenny and Andrea. Jenny was a graphic designer and photographer from St. Louis and Andrea was in school to be a first grade teacher.
All of the questions were Latin-themed. There was a burrito in the center of the table, which Ellen called “Mario’s Burrito”. Only the person holding Mario’s Burrito could answer. The girls were playing for front row seats at I Heart Radio’s first-ever Latin Music Festival, which will have big stars like Ricky Martin and Pitbull. They both would get the chance to meet everyone.
But the questions were easy, like what does Cinco De Mayo mean? Andrea answered fifth of May. Name two countries were Spanish were the primary language. Jenny went with Honduras and Spain. What type of dipping sauce is also a Latin dance? Jenny answered salsa. How do you say no in Spanish? Andrea answered with “no”.
Mario Lopez then asked in Spanish if he could please have their phone number. Andrea responded, “Uh, yeah, you can have my phone number.” I’m not sure what happened, but for some reason this answer didn’t count. But at least now Mario Lopez knew he could get her phone number if he wanted it.
Finally, it came down to naming a state that borders Mexico and Andrea said California. But both girls got to go home with VIP tickets.
Throwback Thursday: Ellen at the Spa
To celebrate throwback Thursday, Ellen showed a segment of her show from 2008 where she went to a spa and pretended to be a masseuse. While the woman was blindfolded, Ellen did a number of hilarious things, including putting ham and cheese on the woman’s face and telling her it did good things with the blood, shooting her with a spray bottle of water while heating her with a hand dryer, and offering her unlicensed Botox injections for 20 dollars. When Ellen took the woman’s blindfold off, she was completely shocked it was Ellen and recognized her immediately.
