Dr. Phil: 26 Year Age Difference

Dr. Phil has been sitting down with 50-year-old Dean and 24-year-old Ashley, who are a couple with a 26 year age difference. The years between them are greater than Ashley’s age. The two have each been arrested for domestic violence. With a three-year-old daughter in the middle, Dr. Phil struggles to find the issues in the relationship so they can be peaceful co-parents of their daughter.

Dr. Phil: Text Messages From The Older Man

Dean is 50. It’s important to remember that before reading this text message he sent to someone 26 years younger than himself, who is also his girlfriend and the mother of his child. Here’s the text message:

• “I will never have to listen to you call me old, fat, wrinkly face again. I don’t have to. U suck and I will never help your sorry, s****, lying a** again. Go get knocked up and let three different guys **** you while you’re pregnant again. You are disgusting and your whole family can’t stand you. I didn’t tell you everything ____ told me today, you’re gonna be shocked. Better step up girl and be a mom. I will not get ahold of you anymore (last text). I’ll be shocked if you show up tomorrow.

Even though he said that was his last text, here’s another one he sent right after that:

• “Good luck seeing or even having Kayden again. Get a lawyer.”

Dean is a really nice guy.

Dr. Phil’s Passive Aggressive Insults

For a man with a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, Dr. Phil likes to play a lot of passive aggressive games. I suppose that’s endearing to some people, but in this instance I found it annoying and I wasn’t the only one. As Dr. Phil pretended to chastise Dean for that gross message above, he actually spent most of the time insulting Ashley.

“You’re a grown man and you can’t believe that your behavior…and hers is an abomination. And trust me, I get it. I get that she is wild and violent and immature and attacks and yells and screams and threatens and disappears and…” Dr. Phil said.

“According to him,” she said.

“No, no. According to you. Come on, are we gonna be honest or we going to come in here and try to put a spin on this? Cause you’re going to lose that fight,” he said.

Ashley said she goes out twice a week and she’s with her daughter for the rest of the time. When she goes out, she leaves their daughter with Dean. And she said that Dean constantly texts her, asking her where she is. And that’s when Dr. Phil started getting real.

“I’m trying to get a list in my mind of the target behaviors that I think need to change in order for this child to have any chance of growing up and being not like you,” he said.

This prompted Ashley to walk off stage. Instead of recognizing that he was being deliberately antagonistic and bullying, Dr. Phil made fun of Ashley, telling her that the way off stage she chose didn’t lead anywhere and she was going to have to make a U-Turn eventually. He was right, but he was still a jerk about it.
