Dr. Phil: Will She Choose Her Boyfriend Or Husband?
Dr. Phil talked to a woman named Lisa caught between her boyfriend and husband. She says her husband Rick is controlling, abusive, and calls her names. She says if he didn’t treat her so bad, she wouldn’t be cheating.
Dr. Phil: Is She In Love With Her Boyfriend?

In order to find out what’s really going on here, Dr. Phil asked Lisa if she loved her boyfriend. She said she didn’t want to answer that because she worried about suffering repercussions from her husband. Dr. Phil thought it was weird she was okay with him knowing she had intimate encounters with her boyfriend in the woods, but not if she was in love with him. Lisa said she didn’t have encounters in the woods, she met him in the woods. She said she would never have encounters in the woods because it’s “tacky”. Dr. Phil thought it was funny that the rest of this didn’t reach the “tacky-meter”.
Lisa said she would answer any questions Dr. Phil had truthfully, so he asked her again if she was in love with her boyfriend. After some back and forth, she finally said she was in love wit her boyfriend “probably, to some degree”. She also said she wasn’t in love with her husband because there’d been “too much cruelty”.
Dr. Phil: Intruding On The Marriage?
Dr. Phil, Lisa, and Rick were then joined by the boyfriend over the phone. Apparently we will never learn the name of the boyfriend, because everyone kept just calling him “the boyfriend”. Dr. Phil asked him if he had any qualms at all with seeing another man’s wife and intruding on their marriage.
The boyfriend basically said he didn’t think it was a real marriage because Rick didn’t have empathy or respect for his wife. He also added that he feels very uncomfortable about this whole situation. Dr. Phil wondered if he’d actually been in their home when he watched their interactions to observe the lack of empathy and respect. He also wondered if the boyfriend had ever been married, which he had, twice, and if the boyfriend had ever cheated.
The boyfriend said there was much more important things to discuss here than whether he’d cheated. He also said that Rick had “malice” in his heart and that he didn’t think his own past was beneficial to the show. Dr. Phil said he must be pretty busy managing another man’s marriage and running the Dr. Phil show.
Dr. Phil said he thought the boyfriend was an intruder and that if Lisa wants a divorce, she should get a divorce. But you should never start a new relationship while you’re still in one. And if you want to work on a marriage, you can’t do that while you’re dating someone else on the side.
