Dr. Phil: Throwing A Pill Bottle
Dr. Phil has been sitting down with Tim and Karen, the adoptive parents of 24-year-old Adam. Tim has said that he wished he never adopted his son and that they would have been better off rescuing dogs. Tim feels this way because according to his parents, Adam is violent and a drug abuser.

Now Adam comes out on stage to talk and he begins by throwing a pill bottle at his mother. Why did he do that? Because he said he felt like he no longer needed drugs to mask his emotions. He’s been clean and sober for eight days.
Adam said that he’s been seen by a number of doctors who said he had A.D.D. His doctors also said that he might have Bipolar Disorder or an anxiety issue. He also does Adderall, Xanax, marijuana, crystal meth, heroin, and cocaine. He also said that the day he pulled a knife on his parents, it was because they weren’t listening to him and he didn’t know any other way to communicate.
That’s also why he threw the pill bottle of Xanax. He believed it was the strongest way to send the message that he didn’t want drugs anymore.
Dr. Phil: Disowning Their Son
“I have never in my life heard of a parent that has willingly turned their backs on their kid,” he said.
Adam said that he has a lot of anger and frustration at his parents. He said that if he talks calmly, his parents won’t listen. Tim said he didn’t believe Adam’s act and that he needs to cut ties with him. Tim’s remarks were a bit tangential and a little juvenile.
Dr. Phil said that he thought Adam throwing the pill bottle was pretty juvenile, too, and a lot like a temper tantrum.
Dr. Phil: Did He Really Give Up Drugs?
Tim said that he doesn’t trust Adam and doesn’t believe rehab will help him. Dr. Phil listed Adam’s bad behavior over the years, including stabbing and punching walls, getting two DUIs, being kicked out of seven apartments, and getting arrested for felony drug possession. Tim actually had to bail Adam out of jail so he could be on Dr. Phil’s show.
“If I was a parent, I don’t think I’d ever say I was done with my son or daughter,” Adam said.
Dr. Phil wondered what Adam wanted from his parents. Adam said he wanted to know that Tim loved him, but he knew it would be a lie. Tim told him he does love him, he just doesn’t want him around.
Adam took a drug test the morning of the show. Did he really give up drugs like he said? The results of the drug test showed he tested negative for all drugs, except for marijuana. So Adam was almost telling the truth.
