Dr. Phil: Why Is The Husband Putting Up With The Abuse?
Dr. Phil has been talking to a wife and husband in a domestic violence situation. The wife is regularly abusing the husband during her rage blackouts. After Dr. Phil got done asking the husband about the affairs he’s been having and whether he’s been flirting with other women to anger his wife, he then followed this by asking the husband why he let his wife beat him. Because apparently blaming the victim is the name of the game on Dr. Phil today.

Aaron served in the Iraq war and he said his military training taught him to be strong and to take a lot and to not lay a hand on his wife. Dr. Phil said his military training didn’t “take his spine” and his “self-esteem.” It also didn’t tell him to “allow someone to beat and abuse him and do it in front of his children.”
Dr. Phil said Aaron’s military training taught him to be a leader and he should step up and lead his family. Dr. Phil reminded him that he wasn’t the one who wrote Dr. Phil for help. Ashley wrote for help from Dr. Phil. Twice: once in 2010, and once in December of 2013.
Dr. Phil: What Does The Wife Stand To Lose In The Relationship?
Ashley said she wrote the last letter five days after Aaron’s affair. She said she stands to lose everything if the efforts to save their marriage failed. Dr. Phil said if the marriage failed it would prove Ashley right, because she doesn’t believe she deserves a happy family and she thinks she’s broken and damaged.
Dr. Phil: Personal Truths Create Our Destiny
Dr. Phil said that everyone has a personal truth that they try to create results from. We create the lives we think we deserve and since Ashley believes she doesn’t deserve her kids and her husband, she’s acting in this way to prove herself right.
Dr. Phil: What Are Her Triggers For Rage Blackouts?
Dr. Phil wrote down a list of Ashley’s triggers, which included when she feels threatened, when she feels Aaron is ignoring her, when she feels abandoned, and when she feels disrespected. Every single one of them involve security. Dr. Phil wondered if she was betrayed as a child. Ashley said her childhood could have been easier.
