Dr. Phil: Man Beats Wife With Wooden Spoon
Dr. Phil has been talking to a man named Kirby who made headlines after he was secretly videotaped by his wife beating her with a wooden spoon. After explaining to Dr. Phil that he only beat her because he believed she needed to be “cured” of the narcissism he himself diagnosed her with after reading about it on the internet and telling Dr. Phil he still wanted her to be with him, he then explained to Dr. Phil she betrayed him.
How did she do that? Well, he claims she hit him, too. He also claims she promised when they got married to be a “Proverbs 31” woman and her selfish and mean behavior was a betrayal of that commitment. In fact, he thought she had become “demonic”. Are you sensing that Kirby is a piece of work yet?
Dr. Phil: What Is A “Proverbs 31 Woman”?

A “Proverbs 31 woman” is a woman who abides by the list of attributes for wives in chapter 31 of the Book of Proverbs in the bible.
“I understand a Proverbs 31 woman. I am married to a Proverbs 31 woman. I guess I just have a different definition than you,” Dr. Phil said.
Proverbs 31:28 says, “Her children stand and bless her. Her husband praises her.” Dr. Phil said that you’re supposed to celebrate a Proverbs 31 woman, not “beat one into submission”.
Dr. Phil: What Should A Man Do If A Woman Hits Him?
Still, Kirby said he didn’t know what he was supposed to do when a woman hits him. Dr. Phil answered this question surprisingly directly. He told Kirby that he shouldn’t corner, provoke and trap her. He should take a demeanor that deescalates a situation when it is getting tense. He should also seek to be understood, not agreed with. If that doesn’t work, then he should walk away until the situation calms down and then he should rejoin her in a calm, nurturing, and loving tone.
Kirby said he tried all of that, but Renee continued to put him down, curse at him, and provoke him. Kirby said if there was footage of her abuse of him, Dr. Phil’s opinion would be different. Dr. Phil said that he would never understand what Kirby did.
“You never, ever put your hands on a woman in anger. Ever,” Dr. Phil said.
Dr. Phil also said that Kirby’s behavior was a “poster boy picture” for narcissism, the very same condition Kirby had decided Renee had. But Dr. Phil added that since he had not evaluated Kirby, so he didn’t know whether he had a narcissistic personality disorder or not, but he wanted to give him a wake up call.
Dr. Phil: He Taught His Son To Spank
Kirby also said that he told his son to spank him, because he wanted him to know what it’s like to spank someone that you love. “It doesn’t feel good. It’s nothing that we want to do. But behavior has to change,” he said.
He added that he and Renee went to 10 different marriage counselors and they all focused on him. Dr. Phil wondered if they changed marriage counselors just because they didn’t agree with him.
