Dr. Phil: Mother Enabling Her Daughter’s Out Of Control Behavior

Dr. Phil has been sitting down with a woman named Dee who has been enabling her daughter Lacey’s out of control behavior. Dee let her daughter Lacey move out at 15 to live with her 18-year-old abusive boyfriend. Dee claims she called police to report Lacey’s boyfriend, but when they arrived Lacey didn’t press charges.

Dee admits she gives her daughter money even though she knows she’s going to spend it on drugs, because Lacey works as a dancer and Dee didn’t want her to make her money that way.

Dr. Phil said she was “parenting from guilt” and that she’s gotten her daughter in a lot of trouble by not being there for her.

Dr. Phil: Driving The Car Off A Cliff

Dee said she lets Lacey drive her car and one time, Lacey drove the car off a 35-foot embankment while under the influence.

“So, you don’t have to predict where it might happen. It has happened. So you say, here are the car keys and here’s some money. So you know she’s taking your car and going to buy drugs,” Dr. Phil said.

“Yeah,” Dee said. She added that she really wanted Dr. Phil’s help and she wanted to be honest. So Dr. Phil got honest.

“You’ve enabled this girl because you don’t know what else to do. You haven’t done it because you want bad for her, you’ve done it because you’ve run out of options,” Dr. Phil said.

Dr. Phil: Arrested & Taken To Jail

Lacey, now 20, said that before she moved out at 15, her mother told her that she almost had an abortion with her and that she wished she’d done it. “It made me very angry,” Lacey said.

Lacey said she was depressed and she didn’t want to be on the road that she’s on. She agreed to go to counseling. According to Lacey, Dee got a court order for Lacey to get counseling without telling Lacey. So police showed up at Lacey’s door and after she got defensive, threatened to taser her. They put her in handcuffs and put her in jail for 10 hours. Lacey said she was completely humiliated and she felt like her mom had come in and hurt her for no reason.

Dr. Phil: Feeling Completely Alone

Lacey told Dr. Phil that she came on the show because she felt like she needed help. She said she’s been in and out of rehab and she’s felt betrayed by a lot of people she knows. She also said that last year, a group of people forced themselves on her. She was feeling a complete lack of trust from both strangers and people she cares about. She felt completely alone.
