Dr. Phil: Couple With A Big Age Difference
Dr. Phil sat down with Ashley, a 24-year-old, who is dating Dean, a 50-year-old. There’s a 26-year age difference between them and for comparison, that’s almost as many years as I am old. Both Ashley and Dean say their three and a half year relationship has been extremely volatile and they’ve both actually served time for assault. To make matters worse, they have a three-year-old daughter. Can these two learn to peacefully co-parent their daughter?
Dr. Phil: Violent Fights

Ashley says that Dean is a pathological liar. The two both also fight every day and they can’t be in the same room without arguing. Dean said that Ashley has jumped on his back, thrown stuff at him, and ripped his shirts. Ashley said Dean has pushed her up against the counter, choked her, tackled her, and thrown her against the window. The police have been called to the house 12 times.
Ashley hit Dean with a glass on Christmas Eve, which resulted in him getting 26 stitches on his face. Ashley was arrested for domestic violence for that incident. Dean said that the stress from all of this causes him to drink, which Ashley said is when he gets the most abusive.
Dr. Phil: Why Is He With Someone 26 Years Younger Than Him?
Dr. Phil asked the question on everyone’s mind right off the bat: why is Dean with someone 26 years younger than him? “I fell in love with her and I love her,” he said. He said he still loves her. He said he loves everything about her except for how they fight, but he did admit that they don’t have much in common. But he said that they did have a daughter together and they both wanted to work it out for her sake.
Ashley’s answer to why she was with Dean was a lot less romantic. “Dr. Phil, I was in foster care. I got released and I had no where to go. He took me in, sucked me into a relationship, got violent, and become an alcoholic,” she said.
Dean said that it all began when he was “hanging out” with Ashley’s sister and she got mad because Ashley sat on his lap and started flirting with him at his camp. Ashley’s sister kicked Ashley out and Dean claimed he told Ashley he’d take her wherever she wanted to go. She ended up going home with him because she had nowhere else to go.
It might be too early to call this one, but Dean is coming off like a real creep to me.
