Dr. Phil: Lying About Abuse
Jeremy said that both him and Gina have lied to other about their abusive relationship. When Jeremy gave Gina a black eye, they both said that Gina had a seizure earlier, as she is an epileptic. Then, when Jeremy tore ligaments in her knee, they told Gina’s father that she had fallen from a ladder while cleaning the gutters. They were lying about abuse because they are embarrassed about their behavior.
Jeremy also forced himself on Gina when she was three months pregnant. Gina tried to tell Jeremy that there were boundaries, but he didn’t understand, and he didn’t confess to it for quite some time. After some prodding, Dr. Phil got Jeremy to admit to violating Gina, and that he understands that he hurt her.
Dr. Phil: Gina Loves Her Abuser
Gina said that she endured all of the abuse because she loves Jeremy and sees the good under all of the bad. They both have similar, dark pasts that initially drew them together. It’s strange that Gina can see the good in Jeremy, however, when she starts talking about Jeremy whipping her with a belt buckle. The whipping left a bruise the size of Gina’s two fists.
Dr. Phil asked Jeremy why he permitted it from himself, and Jeremy said it that he gets so angry that his logic and common sense falls by the wayside. Gina has done things to Jeremy that have left emotional marks on him, and he said that a lot of these past treatments bubble to the surface later on. Jeremy said that these emotions are also brought up over material items, such as car keys and keyboards as well.
Dr. Phil: Putting Hands On A Woman Sacrifices A Man’s Character
Dr. Phil said that when a man puts his hands on a woman and violates her, he sacrifices his character and is a scumbag way to act. Dr. Phil said that if he believed Jeremy genuinely didn’t know what he was doing, Dr. Phil would move to have him locked up, but he had more faith in Jeremy than that, and wanted to explain to Jeremy what he meant.
