Dr. Phil: Drug-Addicted Mother
Dr. Phil talked to Cheryl and John, the parents of 22-year-old Taylor. Taylor overdosed for the second time just a week ago. She had to be resuscitated with CPR in the hospital and given oxygen. Taylor is addicted to drugs and is also the mother of a two-year-old son, who Cheryl is taking care of for the time being. Dr. Phil showed a video of Taylor in the hospital and another video, just hours later, when she was smoking a cigarette and yelling and swearing at her mother.

Taylor is homeless. Her drugs of choice are heroin and meth. Taylor is a thief and was arrested two weeks ago living in a motel with a boyfriend. She was arrested for robbing homes.
“Seeing my daughter laying in that hospital bed is probably the most painful thing I’ve ever, ever had to deal with,” Cheryl said.
Cheryl has to keep Taylor away from her son because of Taylor’s addiction. Cheryl said that she was afraid her daughter was near death because consequences didn’t seem to matter to her anymore.
“I really feel that she’s going to die if she doesn’t get help,” Cheryl said.
Dr. Phil: Intervention To Save Her Life
Dr. Phil sent Debbie and Brandon, a mother and son intervention team from VIP Recovery to help the family confront Taylor and get her to Dr. Phil’s stage. Because if there’s one thing a drug-addicted mother with a death wish needs it’s to be pressured and rushed onto national television. But I digress.
Debbie and Brandon talked to Cheryl and John in their home to assess the severity of the situation. John said that Taylor did heroin, meth, and some pills. That’s what caused the overdose. He said she was disappointed she woke up. John said they had already planned the funeral.
Dr. Phil: What Kind Of Resources Are There In The Home?
On Dr. Phil’s set, John and Cheryl were there, as well as Shannon, Taylor’s biological mother, three of Taylor’s grandparents, and Jacob, Taylor’s younger brother. Dr. Phil asked Shannon if she understood the gravity of this situation. Dr. Phil said that if no one had found Taylor last week when she overdosed, no one would be talking about this on Dr. Phil.
Shannon said she felt hopeless and she wanted to stop whatever she was doing to contribute to this. She admitted she’d contributed to this.
Dr. Phil: Is Her Father A Drug Addict?
Dr. Phil asked John if he has contributed to this situation. Dr. Phil asked John if he was a drug user. John said he was in the past. Now, he’s taking morphine, Valium, and Dilaudid under a doctor’s supervision for a fractured vertebra. Dr. Phil asked John if she had given Taylor any drugs. He said no.
But then Debbie brought up the day before, when Debbie suggested John calm Taylor down because Taylor was going through withdrawals and was refusing to get on a plane. John chose to give Taylor 90 milligrams of extended release morphine to help her with her withdrawals. John claimed he thought they wanted him to give Taylor drugs. Debbie is a psychiatric nurse and she said she wouldn’t tell him to give her drugs.
John said he didn’t think he was an addict. Brandon said that Taylor is shooting up heroin on a daily basis and the medication John is on put her to sleep.
